Sitebuilder Plus: Password Protected Pages

You can password protect pages that you don't want to be viewed by the public. Follow these steps to password protect individual pages:

Click Websites Manager in the left navigation menu. Then, click Edit Site.
Go to the page you'd like to password-protect.
Click Page Settings in the top toolbar. Select Advanced Settings from the drop-down.
Then, enter a password for the page.
Save and Publish the page and it will be password protected.

Warning: Search engines can't crawl any web page that is password protected. Your website may be penalized by ranking lower in search.

Sites that do not use Master Templates will always have the password field available on every page. However newer sites that were created with SiteBuilder Plus and include the Master Templates, have a feature where this can be turned on or off. If you need to set a password for a page, but don't see the option, click the "Background, Links, Footer" tab, and then you will see a button that says "Set for this page". After selecting that button, then go back to the "Advanced Settings" tab, and it will show the password field.

I have no idea what tool you are running that looks like above screenshot. It is not sitebuilder lite or full. Is there some other tool you provide that I should know about?

This info is OLD. Sitebuilder Plus does not look like that - nor can I find anywhere to Password protect a page. The old desktop sitebuilder had the option.

Hi Ronda1042 ,

This info is not old, and I see that you're currently using Sitebuilder Plus.

If you do not see the password field, you may need to disable the master template.

Click Page Settings > Background, Links , Footer > select "set for this page only"

You should then see the password field under the Advanced tab.

I followed the instructions given here.... problem is that my "Advanced Settings" page looks just like the example without the "Password Protect This Page" box? My site is on the basic plan; do I need to upgrade to business plan to get this option?

I HAVE AN ANSWER!!!! The instructions above forgot to mention that you first have to go to Background, Links and Footer (right above Advanced Settings) and select "Set for this page only). Once you click that, you will see the option that says "Password Protect This Page" under Advanced Settings.

Is there a way to have a sign in and password to view a page on my website?? My website is for our church and was thinking of making a church roster page for our members. Wouldn't want this information available to everyone, but to those who are members. I know that I can password protect a page but wasn't sure if each person would be able to set up their own sign in and password? Is this possible?

I think I tried all the options above, and the changes are visible when I'm in the Preview mode. The links don't show up after Publish though.

You may just need to clear your browser's cache, as I see the "member's only" link in your navigation and am taken to the Password page.

Hi agleasonhr5695,

In order to see the password field as instructed above, you'll need to first disable the master template feature by clicking:

Page Settings > Background, Links, Footer > Select "Set for only this page"
(option at the bottom)

*please note: There is currently a bug that doesn't allow your navigation menu to appear on password protected pages. We're working on resolving this - However, I do not have an eta for the fix yet.

If you'd prefer to use a 3rd party solution, you may want to look into something like AuthPro.

I am unable to get my password to work on my home page except when it initially publishes and does a preview. It works there, but then not anytime afterwards. Very strange.

Hi RickP,

The above screen shots are for Sitebuilder Plus, the newer editor which is browser based. Currently, you have access to both, the desktop (downloaded program) and plus (online version).

I've replied to your other post as well explaining the difference in adding a password to one of your pages.

When I viewed your site, it asked for a password (which I don't have), so I wasn't able to view anything.

How do I make my site have a password protection when you first go to the site. I want to make sure that only the people I want to have access to the site have access. So the home page will come up with a password box and once they enter it it will then take them to the site.

This thread will show you how password protect your pages. Keep in mind, by adding a password to just the home page, your other pages are not protected. If you want to protect all the pages, you'll need to repeat these steps for each page.

How exactly does the password protect work? I would like users to be able to login on the first page and access all the others through that. I don't want any of the pages to be public. Do I have to password protect each one? Then do users have to enter the password each time they navigate?

I somehow accidently fixed it, where I have to put in a password to view a page. Then my password won't work.How do I undo this? I don't want to have to put in a password to view anything, I am working on. Please help.

Just follow the steps above and delete the existing password which you have entered, and re-publish the page.
