SEO Audit showing low word count

In every SEO tool that I have used, they show a low word count (8 for my home page) when in fact I have paragraphs on my webpage. Why is this and how can I fix? It seems the SEO settings on a 'paragaph' are not showing to the crawlers as content/text which means the same is probably happening with google which seems to be dramatically impacting my ranking.

The Site Auditor will count both visible and invisible text and will report a "Low Word Count" warning if your page has less than 200 words.
