We've been using the desktop version for close to 10 years and would like to upgrade the entire site to modernize it but I'm not sure if it's worth trying to figure all this out with Homestead.

There are no tutorials for any of the site builder versions. I don't even have the option to use this *new* Website Builder. The only Categories are for the 'plus' and *new* versions, not the old desktop version. I've searched conversations, categories, posts, questions etc. and can find virtually nothing to answer my main question. The only threads which remotely answer are these (and most are 3-5 years old!):

It is confusing! Hopefully this will shed some light on it for you.

1. Desktop was the original builder and the only version you could work on without having to be online. It has become more and more problematic as Windows changes.
2. SiteBuilder Plus was the online version that Intuit put out when they bought Homestead. I do not have a high opinion of it.
3. Website Builder is the newest version. It's a cloud based builder, which basically means it is accessed via the Web.

At this point any new sites are being put on the new version.  If you do not see Add A New Site in the upper right of your screen when you log in it means you probably have the package that only allows 1 site.

To use the new builder you would need to purchase an additional site that is 2.00/month and once you have completed building the new site you could then have that removed as you would point the new site to your original domain.

How It Works:

Once you have access to the additional site you would click on the Add A New Site. This opens a window and asks you to name the site. This can be anything as eventually you will switch it over to your original domain. You then are asked to choose a template. If you don't see one you like you can simply pick one, delete all the elements and start with a blank canvas.

Your original site remains up and active while you build on the new builder. It isn't possible to just move your content from one to the other as the software is too different between programs so you'll be building from scratch, but it's easy to just open up the current site in the browser and copy/paste content to the new. Images will need to be uploaded again however.

This program has a learning curve and it's quite different than the Desktop version, but there are some helpful posts located under the Websitebuilder Category - Denoted by the house in the red circle. And you can always ask questions here in the Community Forum.

Website Builder is responsive so your site renders in all devices. There is a mobile version that you build along side of the desktop version and the platform meets Google's requirements for having responsive sites.

Hope this helps answer a few of your questions about the builders.

Very helpful, thank you!!

Bummed I have to create it all from scratch with the new builder (over 30 pages currently and thousands of images) but this may be a lot easier than figuring out how to do everything elsewhere (transferring domains, hosting, SEO, custom emails etc.). Luckily I have unlimited sites to add!

I will definitely continue to seek help here as needed.

Thanks again! :)
