I’m trying to establish a second website with the URL lessonplanondemand.com. But after I upload the index page and type the new homepage address in my browser, it pulls up the index page from my FIRST website at trinitytutors.com instead. Why is this? When I created a second website a year or two ago at narrowgatetrading.com, there were no problems at all and everything worked smoothly as could be, without any glitches. What happened?

Hello Expiated

This is because your domain associated to the first site you built because the new site wasn't created yet. You just have to change the site association on that domain to your new site:

Your directions say: “Here's how you can associate your domain with another website on your account. Click Domains link in the left navigation menu. Scroll down until you see your domain name and click Change Site Association. Choose the website you'd like your domain name to point to using the drop-down menu.”

However, the website I'd like my domain name to point to (lessonplanondemand.com) is not there. Instead it says lessonplanondemand.homesteadcloud.com, which I already tried, and I got a 404 ERROR.

Your directions say: “IF YOU GET A 404 ERROR on your published site, please follow the instructions in this article to fix this:
https://community.homestead.com/homestead/topics/fixing-the-website-builder-404-error

But your directions in the article say: “If the site you are switching to is built in Website Builder** Click Websites Manager, choose the site you are working with, click Edit Site, and Publish.”

However, if you look at the attached image you will see that THERE IS NO EDIT SITE OR PUBLISH. There is only RENAME.

Now I am no longer getting a 404 ERROR, but I instead got a message saying the page could not be found...

...and then saying that the site cannot be reached:

I already did all of this on my own yesterday—without your directions—an went through all of the very same things before.

Do I simply need to come back in an hour and the site WILL be reached? Is there some kind of a delay? If not, what am I still doing wrong?

One last image...

lessonplanondemand.com is your domain name, the site name would end in .homestead.com or .homesteadcloud.com. I can see lessonplanondemand.homesteadcloud.com is made on the new builder, but no design has been chosen yet. Did you maybe try to build it in the old Sitebuilder program? No new sites can be made on that builder, so that would be why it isn't showing up. You would need to click choose design, select a template and build your site in Website Builder. I can see you have your domain associated properly now.

Yes, I used the old Sitebuilder program. I do not like ready-made templates, which is why I selected Homestead, so if that is the route I must now go, I will probably have to decide whether I want to move my domain name elsewhere since there are other “choose a design” sites that are more appealing. The ability to build a site from blank pages was the one thing that separated Homestead from all the rest. At least now I know what the problem was, so I’ll have to go see if any of your “canned” designs looks halfway decent to me, thanks.

Wait! Are you saying that my URL will end in .homestead.com or .homesteadcloud.com regardless? If that’s the case I am DEFINITELY taking my domain name elsewhere. I need my URL to be lessonplanondemand.com period—nothing else.

If you don't like the design, you can delete everything on it. Everything is able to be changed. There isn't a blank template, but you can delete anything you don't like.

Also, no your site won't always end in .homesteadcloud.com. That is your site name. You've always had one. Once you have a domain attached to the site, it will take the place of the site name.

Yeah, I started to delete everything yesterday, but when I tried to paste new text, I got a message saying the browser would not let me do it by right clicking, which was a problem for me, so I deleted the domain.

But thinking I could associate lessonplanondemand.com to trinitytutors.com, I recreated the domain this morning, but associating the two didn’t work (I thought it did before).

However, it occurred to me that perhaps I could paste text by right clicking if I used Internet Explorer as my browser instead of Gloogle Chrome, which worked after I gave the program permission.

But when I clicked on the button to publish the website, I got a message saying it would be available at lessonplanondemand.homesteadcloud.com....

You wrote that once I have a domain attached the site, it will take the place of the site name. Is what you are really saying is that I need to upgrade? Is that what “upgrade to connect a custom domain” means? I don’t remember having to do this when I created narrowgatetrading.com, but perhaps it just slipped my mind.

Now, when I type lessonplanondemand.com, this is what I get...

Does this mean that someone else is now trying to take control of the domain that is registered to me?

The paste option by right clicking is a browser setting you should be able to enable in any browser. You can, however, always use CTRL+V if you are using a windows computer.

Please make sure the site association for lessonplanondemand.com is the .homesteadcloud.com site name. Once it is, and it is still publishing to the site name, please follow the instructions in this post to fix that:
https://community.homestead.com/homestead/topics/fixing-the-website-builder-404-error

No, no one is trying to take control of your domain.

You say, “The paste option by right clicking is a browser setting you should be able to enable in any browser.” However, right clicking has never NOT worked for me in the past and it still works for me just fine right now with every other program and website except for this new Homestead site builder. (I cannot use CTRL+V because my V key has become dysfunctional.)

I followed the instructions you cited twice already, but fine...I just followed them a third time, and after clicking the Rename, Check Availability, and Save buttons, I get this...

...and nothing changes. To see the website, I have to include “homesteadcloud...”

Otherwise I get this...

You just keep typing the same thing over and over again... (i.e., “follow the instructions in this post to fix that.”) But it DOESN’T fix it. Should I call that telephone number I’ve seen on the website somewhere instead?

Well the first part of those instructions was to change the site association for that domain to the correct site, which I see still hasn't been done. Do that, and then the other instructions I posted would be relevant. You can certainly call if that would be easier for you. You'll have to call after 6AM MST tomorrow, as support is closed today

Thank you very much! (It is still not working, but at least everything is now saying what it is supposed to say, so I will try the URL again in a couple of hours and see if it finally gives me the right web page. By the way, I did all this before, but apparently not in the right order—my apologies!)

As I already did before...I associated lessonplanondemand with lessonplanondemand:

I then renamed the site: lessonplanondemand

I then went to the online site builder and tried to publish the site again, but got this message:

I tried a second time, and the platform said my site was published, but when I went to lessonplanondemand.com, I found a web page that was set up by someone OTHER than me—a web page that did NOT exist two days ago...

And even when I tried lessonplanondemand.homesteadcloud.com, the web site that was there before was gone...

So I will try calling 1-800-986-0958 at 8:00 AM tomorrow and hope that sales will connect me with someone in customer service who can help me.

Only for a while!

It was working fine for a couple of hours, and then all of a sudden, for no reason at all,
it went back to this...

Homestead was better before all the changes!

Hey Expiated

It looks like the website is working checking it on my end. Can you pull the site up on your phone? Do you have a browser you have not gone to this site on yet?

50% of the time it works and the other half of the time I get that other web page. The same thing happens on Firefox and Internet Explorer.
