1. On the top toolbar click Tools, then Account Settings.

2. In the lower left corner, click Account Actions then Add Mail Account.

3. Complete the Your Name, Email Address, and Passwordfields, Check the "Remember password" box, and click Continue.

4. Click the Manual Configuration, button.

5. Choose between IMAP or POP3. IMAP is recommended if you check your email from multiple locations and devices.

Enter the settings shown and click the Done button.

IMAP Settings

POP3 Settings

6. If you get a pop-up like shown below, place a check mark in the "I understand the risks" check box. and click Done.

This warning is normal. These configuration settings provided above, are the same as those used in Outlook and other email clients. The only difference is that Thunderbird warns you that it is not encrypted

If it's not saving sent emails, in the sent folder, you may have to check one of the settings. From the top menu click on Tools > Account Settings. On the window that appears, you'll see your email account(s) listed on the left side. Under the email address, you'll see an option that says "Copies & Folders". When you click on this option the window will display an option where you can designate where "sent" copies should be stored.

I set it up like you said above, but I get this error message:Sending of message failed.
The SMTP server smtp.homestead.com does not seem to support encrypted passwords. If you just set up this account, please try changing to 'Normal password' as the 'Authentication method' in the 'Account Settings | Server settings'. If it used to work and now suddenly fails, please contact your email administrator or provider

You have it set to normal password? It is apparently still trying to use an encrypted password. Do you have more than 1 account setup?

Ok, Are you using POP or IMAP? I am going to setup some accounts and download Thunderbird to see if I can duplicate the problem. Are all 4 accounts the same domain? If not are they all Homestead emails?

I have been using 5 Homestead IMAP accounts today in Thunderbird without issue. Can you confirm the outgoing settings are as pictured below, but with your email address?

Awesome. Seeing it broken down like that helped me see what was wrong. Thanks for all your work.
