I have a form with several text boxes. How do I get the tab to go from one text box to another in the order I want?

Hi Philip2950,

It's done by layering, last added or at the top. Once you've got your form built the way you want, right click > element layer order > bring to front

*do this to each form element, in the order you want them to tab

Hope this helps, thanks.

I don't see "bring to front", I only see "bring forward". Bring forward doesn't work very well, if you don't know the order to start with. Any idea why I wouldn't have "Bring to Front" as an option?

When you "right-click" on the element you wish to re-layer, you'll get a menu as shown below.

Just hover your mouse over "Element Layer Order, and the second menu will pop out with these options.

Why when you hit tab on one of my forms does it skip?.

When you tab to the next line of one of my forms it skips down like 5 spots, why is that happening and how can I fix it?

When you tab, it advances to the next field in the order that it was added to the page. This is because of the layering. You can control the order, by controlling the layers. If you start with the first field on your form, and choose (right click) the "Bring to Front" option, then go to the next field and keep doing the same, then when you get to the last field, it will be layered on top. This way, when you click into the first field, you will advance to the next layer, the next layer and so on.

Another option, but more time consuming is to delete all the boxes and re-add them in the correct order.

Follow the steps above. Just order/layer them in the order you need them to appear.

Custom form won't email . . ..

I've created a custom form on my site and I cannot get that form to send me an email when the form is submitted. I've selected the email option, and my email address is correct in the settings. Also, I don't seem to be able to get the form fields re-ordered so that a visitor can tab through the site logically. Please help.

The steps above show you how to reorder the form elements. Afar as the emails not being received, can you try to set it to a different (non-homestead) address and see if the messages come through.

This will tell me if there's some sort of block on the sending email address.

Is there a way to view tab order on a custom form?.

Created a custom form. added some fields. The tab order is difficult to determine. Is there a way to view tab order while in edit mode? I'd rather not have to recreate the form each time I decide to add a new field somewhere in the form.

There is no way to view the order, but you can change it as needed.

Thanks

I was able to reorder the tabs of the text boxes on one form on my site, but not another. Then when I went back to add new text boxes and reorder the first form, I couldn't do it on that page anymore. I can't "right-click" on the text boxes, which is what I did the first time, following your instructions above. Any idea why I now can't right-click on the boxes (meaning that when I click the right button on the mouse, "nothing* happens or appears).
Thanks!

Dave8891,

Changing the tab order should also order the email.

My problem  is as follows:

The text that a submitter enters into the Comments text box at the bottom of the form http://www.wsmaonline.org/Vacation_Watch_Form.html comes as the first entry to the email that I receive. As long as they don't use the ENTER key while completing the entry that is OK. But when they ignore the request and use the ENTER key for a new sentence then that comes as multiple separate lines in the email I receive. This is a problem in that I copy the email into an Excel spreadsheet which uses a macro to populate a form which I send back in response. If the comments entry comes back as multiple lines it throws off the macro. Putting the Comment text at the end of the email would solve this problem.

I will report this to the developers, but there is no customization available on the email. I am not sure what they can do, but I will send it over.

I don't know how your visitors go through the form, but if you make that field the last in the tab order, it should be the last in the email.
