If you want to add an audio or video file to your site you can follow these instructions.

Please keep in mind the supported file types

Audio: ogg, wav, mp3, mp4, aac
Video: ogv, webm, mp4

1) Launch Sitebuilder and open the page on which you wish to place the media file.

2) Click on the insert button and then hover the mouse over YouTube.

3) Select Video Player or Audio Player as appropriate. You will then be able to upload the media file from your computer. Supported formats are listed above.

4) With the media file uploaded you can now drag the element to where you
would like it displayed on your webpage. You can also use the properties manager on the right for additional options.

I am having trouble uploading an mp4 movie file to my site. I tried following the instructions above but my screen view is completely different than what I see above. I have no insert button that I can see. It says that mp4 media files are not accepted for this type of element. The element in question is the media file box that pops up when you select add media file button. I'll try more searching on the forum. Thanks in advance!

You are probably using Sitebuilder desktop. It is an older program and does not support mp4. You would have to add these using HTML, https://community.homestead.com/homestead/topics/can_i_play_an_audio_file_using_html5_in_sitebuilder

I followed the instructions above as well and cannot upload an mp4 video file.  We are using the online sitebuilder software, so it should be "up to date".

Teresa8270, which site and page are you trying to upload the file to? Can you try the import option from within the file manager? Make sure to use Firefox or Chrome. Do you get an error? Can you describe exactly where you are getting stuck?

ELizabeth2506 Brian was correct. You will need to delete them and add them back according to these instructions at the top. The newer player will resolve the issue. Keep in mind that these only work in the online Sitebuilder. If you sometimes use the old desktop program then you will need to add the media files via HTML code.

Are you saying that this is the only way to correct this. My website was constructed in many layers starting in 2010 and would require dozens of rebuilds.  In my case all of the music players on a page (8-12 or more) play simultaneously only in Mozilla Firefox but my website works fine in Internet Explorer. I have not tried other browsers. How can I fix this (what appears to be a browser problem) otherwise in Mozilla Firefox.  Thanks for your help.

It will happen on Chrome too if you have the newest version. The issue is that the old players used plug ins to play. The browsers are dropping support for plugins completely, so they players need to be changed out to the current ones which work on HTML5 and should work universally. Unfortunately, replacing each player is required. I am sorry.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Why does an audio clip automatically play, when I have it 'unchecked' for it not ....

This concerns our Firehouse Moustache Wax site. I have it unchecked for
audio not to play on our home page (so the customers can choose to hear
the audio or not), but it plays automatically when in Firefox. When
using IE it doesn't play automatically. Not sure about Google as I only
use Firefox or Explorer on my laptop. Is there a way to correct this, or
why does it automatically play in one browser and not the other?

Also,
we just had a customer tell us that the audio clip we have on our
'Photo Gallery' pages actually downloaded to his computer. It's just an
audio clip of someone saying 'Wow!' and we have it checked to play
automatically. Why would it download the file to his computer? How can
we change this? Thanks!

You'll need to delete the players and add them back according to these instructions. Browsers are discontinuing support for plug ins, so use the new media players and they will not require plug ins. They will play on all browsers and the controls will work correctly.

You'll need to delete the current ones and add them according to these instructions. This only works with Sitebuilder Plus. If you still use the old program sometimes, then you will need to add them via HTML code.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Audio Icon not appearing or playing on my website.

In the Website Manager I have selected an Audio Icon for my front page. In editing it I have selected a .mid file from my Files Manager. I have left it to the discretion of the viewer to turn it on or off. After saving/publishing my site page I then exit and open my website and note that the audio icon is not shown. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for any help offered.

We are having a problem with the display of Image Scroller element on the home page of putteraroundclubrepair.com. On some PC browsers like Firefox it displays correctly. On other PC browsers or on Smart phone browsers some of the components get cut off. Is there any way to fix this ? Perhaps convert the Image Scroller to HTML5?

  • 258,518 Points 100k badge 2x thumb
Susan6920, you do have the older media player there under the scroller. It looks to me that it is the issue. The browsers display that player differently. Delete that player and use the instructions at the top of this page to install the HTML5 player. Unfortunately, it is possible that browsers will still display it differently, and you may need to make some adjustments, but it will get that audio switched to an HTML5 player which is better for your site.

I have many MP3 files on one of my webpages. I have them all configured to NOT play automatically in the website builder, but they all play automatically, and at the same time, when using most browsers.
The only browser that I have been able to find which works as expected (i.e. waits for the user to press play before the file begins to play) is Internet Explorer. How can I ensure that my MP3 files will only play when the user clicks 'play' in any browser?
