I got the same message, Woody, and have no idea how to do it.  I'm sure Homestead will provide step-by-step directions whenever it needs to be done.  Until then, I'm not going to worry about it.

Well I got the same message with some instructions but i am not a tech and have no idea where to start doing this.  The instructions are very basic and not to descriptive as to how!!!  I am so frustrated with the whole process and the money that I have lost and the people I have had to lay off during this Christmas season it just breaks my heart.  So unexceptionable.

We got this email too but it makes no sense. I've never heard of creating a CNAME record and pointing it to a nameserver ... isn't that what nameserver records are for?

Does anyone from Homestead read this forum?

Yes we do. You are correct, it makes no sense and do nothing at this time. We are formulating a better email

We pay a lot of money every year for much better service than what we are getting right now. Homestead, get your act together!

Homestead is trying to get everyone to switch their nameservers to Homestead. This gives Homestead more control over your domain, but gives you less control. By switching nameservers to Homestead, your domain's "zone file" becomes hosted at Homestead, instead of hosted at your domain service provider. Your "zone file" is where you type in the IP addresses (servers) for both your email service and website host. For example, let's say your domain service provider is Network Solutions. Right now you can login to Network Solutions and type in MX (mail) servers for your email that point to which ever email provider you want, and also type in "A records" that point to website servers for which ever website host you want. Homestead is proposing that you now have to login to Homestead to specify your email and website servers.

I do not want Homestead to have control of my zone file. At any point they could remove my ability to change my mail servers to another company (or make it difficult), and could make it difficult for me to switch my website to another website host. Homestead's approach with the current email they sent out confirms that I do not want them to be in control of my zone file.

If you agree that Homestead customers should have the choice to continue to host their zone file outside of Homestead at a neutral domain service provider, please let Homestead know.

I have no reason to delete it. The easiest way to update your DNS, if required, is by nameservers. It will not be required. Using our nameservers does host your zone file, but the control of that zone file is still completely under your control. Also, in case we make a change in the future if you use our nameservers, all updates will be automatic if you are using our services. So if you wish to continue to use your nameservers, please do so. We will provide you with the updates you will have to make shortly.

Thank you, Drew. It sounds like there will soon be a change to the IP address for our websites (which will require us to update our zone file). Can you please consider making the change after January 5 as so many people (including me!) will be on vacation before then due to school district vacation schedules. Thanks, and Happy Holidays.

Hi all,

If you received a notice that you may need to change your DNS records, and have not received a specific message from me, then please create a private topic here and I will check into your domain. For security reasons we can't post the information publicly.

Thank you

PLEASE HELP and QUICK......I have domains with Go Daddy that are pointed via IP address to homestead by way of changing the DNS name servers at go daddy... This was done so that i could utilize Godaddy's email and still have the domains pointed to a site created with Homestead.... Since I received the before mentioned email from homestead about making DNS changes, my sites have been down... What changes do I need to make to the DNS at Godaddy to get the sites back up and running?    The email did not explain the process, and my sites are down...

The domains are as follows

&

www.taxmasterdfw.com - a Godaddy domain pointed via IP address to the site I created with homestead - taxmasterdfw

Hi zachary8343,

Can you start a private conversation and tell us which domains so we can take a look. I clicked on a few of your pointed domains and they all brought up sites.

Drew
