I have built a new website to take over an old one. I was just about to change the site association and came across the option of subdomain, but have no clue what a subdomain is or does ?

Hello,
If you've ever seen websites like blog.website.com or shop.website.com, those are subdomains. Basically, it is a branch off of your main domain, but not everyone needs them.
