Fixing the Website Builder 404 error
Some of you might come across the error that can happen with Website Builder sites. It looks like this:

If you see this, have no fear. This is an easy fix.

Step 1: Log out of Website Builder. Everywhere. This fix will not work if the builder is still open anywhere.

Step 2: Log into your Homestead account at homestead.com  and click on Websites Manager

Step 3: Choose the site that is experiencing the error from your list of sites (if you have more than one) and click "Rename"

Step 4: Click the yellow button that says "Check Availability", then click "Save"

Step 5: Go re-publish and enjoy your functional published site!

Getting below error when trying to download site builder.  Want to start updating my website and am not able to download the builder to do so.  What is the fix for this?

404 - File or directory not found.

The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

Hello,

Unfortunately, the download for Sitebuilder Desktop is broken. We are looking to see if we'll be able to fix it, but as of right now, you would need to use Sitebuilder Plus to edit your website.

No. Not a working option. 404 error is when you are clicking on "websites manager" on menu of Homestead HOME page. No sites to click on to alter in any way. All but "Constant Contact" menu options work, but in its case, it just goes nowhere. No 404 message.

So frustrating. I phoned yesterday and was just told 'hmmm I don't know what could be wrong'. They escalated it. I have a super important update I needed to do a week ago and have no access! Not good....time to switch companies soon I think!

@liz2847 Yesterday was a holiday, Juneteenth. Some problems take research. Changing hosting may not be in your best interest. Please be patient or call them again.

When I follow these instruction it says the site name I want to use is not available!  But I have been using it for ten years!

Google says I have site indexing issues and wants a file downloaded to my page?!  I have no idea what is going on or how to fix this.

I don't understand your answer

That link does not help.  I have been looking at it.

I do not want to change the name of my website and when I use the instructions the website I already have is not on the list.  The instructions do not make any sense.  Why is google saying I have indexing issues and wants be to download a file to my site?  Do I do that?  And how?  The same answer will soon prompt me to change website providers.

I tried this fix for www.greatamericanplumbing.com and it is not working. I can't figure out why the site is not working after following the instructions for transferring domains. My company rebuilt the site, moved the domain to point to the new site and now we get a block that says hosted by homestead.

This does not work because when I click "Websites Manager," it doesn't pull up that page. That's where I'm getting the 404 error message. I can't get to any of my websites! Help please!

Thanks, Russell. I was just in there yesterday retrieving an order from my store to get the shipping address. All went well. Then, today, nada! 404 error message, so I can't even get to my websites to make edits. Guess I'll keep trying. If it doesn't allow me in, I'll call.

Is there anyone who can explain why EPP code cannot be emailed?

@inga7392

To get the EPP authorization code for a domain currently with Homestead, log in to your Homestead account, navigate to the "Domains" section, select the domain you wish to transfer, and look for an option to retrieve or email the authorization code. You must also ensure the domain is unlocked and any privacy protection is disabled before you can initiate a transfer.
Steps to Get Your Authorization Code:
  1. Log In: Access your Homestead control panel or account.
  2. Go to Domains: Select the "Domains" section from the left-hand menu.
  3. Select Your Domain: Click on the specific domain name you want to transfer.
  4. Locate the Code: In the domain management screen, find the option to "Email your authorization code" or "Send Authorization Code".
  5. Email the Code: Click on the appropriate link to have the EPP code sent to the administrative contact's email address on file for the domain.
Important Considerations Before You Transfer:
  • Domain Lock:
Make sure your domain is unlocked. You will typically see a link to disable the "registrar lock" or "domain locking" in your domain management area.
  • Privacy Protection:
If privacy protection is enabled for your domain, you'll need to disable it to proceed with the transfer.
  • Administrative Contact Email:
Verify that the email address listed as the administrative contact for your domain is an email you have access to, as the EPP code will be sent there.
  • Transfer Timing:
A domain must generally be older than 60 days since registration or its last transfer before it can be moved to a new registrar.
