Error when attempting to publish or save

Sorry for the novel…

Two days ago we were unable to save or publish our site after making updates. After multiple attempts and watching the little blue line go across the top of the screen for nearly 10 minutes each time, I would get “internal error occurred” each time. Logged out (lost my updates), cleared cookies and cache, rebooted both the computer, and refreshed our modem. Ran a speed test thinking maybe the connection wasn’t strong enough; nope, speeds are great. Logged into website builder again, same problem. Called tech support and was told it’s the cache (never been a problem before and I already clear it daily anyway). Tech support said to log into the website builder using a private browser setting. Boom, it worked and we could save and publish once again. Cool. Until last night when I updated our site (using the private browser as advised) and had the same problem once again.

After more than an hour of attempts to save and publish, getting “internal error occurred” after watching that little blue line for about 10 minutes each time… it worked. It finally published. But I am concerned we are going to have the problem again. I update our site every night as I have done for about the last three years.

Looking for ideas here, but I'm not convinced the problem has anything to do with the cache (please someone correct me if I am wrong). We have two websites with two separate domains that are unaffiliated with each other, but both are under our one Homestead account. Both are accessed and updated separately using my same computer and browser. But the problem I mentioned above only occurs with one of the sites. It happens to be the larger of the two sites in terms of number of pages. The smaller site saves and publishes in a matter of seconds, whereas the other one (even before the above-mentioned problem) takes about three to five minutes on a normal day.

Is it possible the site we are now having problems with is too large and its size is causing problems? I am perplexed as to why one site is giving us trouble and the other is not. Any help or suggestions are very much appreciated!

You may be timing out. You connection will terminate when left unattended. Try logging out and logging in again.

Hello,

It is unlikely that it is an issue with your website size. We currently don't have any known publishing issues with the builder and I'm unable to replicate it, so it may be a caching issue or an issue with the browser. I would recommend trying a different browser or an incognito tab.

Thank you for the reply. We have tried multiple browsers now and the incognito tabs. Still having the problem. Sometimes it works fine, other times not. I clear history and cache, cookies, etc. every day. As I am typing this I am attempting to save the site for the third time after getting the error message the first two times. It saved finally on the third attempt after watching the blue line go across the top of the page for about 8 minutes. Our internet connection is strong. Is there something else I should be doing to correct a caching issue?

Also, the problem is only with one of our sites (the other site on the same Homestead account works fine each and every time on the same computer and browsers).

What is the website address?

WEBSITE PAGE NOT PUBLISHING: Use Google Chrome or Firefox browser.
1. Try an F5 to Refresh your browser.
2. Publishing will be prohibited if you exceed your page limit or your storage limit. Does your account allow for 25 MB of disk space? If you are attempting to exceed that amount, so it will not publish.
3. You may add 1gb of space for $2/month.
4. you can look in the file manager and see if there are files no longer on a page that you can delete to free up some space.
5. To see your used and remaining storage space, go to homestead.com and log into your account. Select My Account > Account Summary > In the page that opens, you'll see your site stats, including the amount of MB used and remaining.
6. Do you have a 5 page plan? You may be trying to publish more than 5 pages. You can either remove pages to get down to 5, or you can add a 10/pack, 10 additional pages for $2/month.
7. Have you tried publishing from the file manager? https://community.homestead.com/homestead/topics/why-are-my-changes-not-publishing.

Have you reviewed your website publishing limitations?
