Privious email account was deleted but emails are still being forwarded?

We had deleted an email account form our list of accounts. Before it was deleted it was setup for forwarding. Since the email account was deleted, we are still getting the forwarded emails from a nonexistent account. Is there a way to fix this so the deleted account is fully closed and will no longer forward emails?

Please recreate the email address, remove the forward, then delete the email address again.
