switching site association and using renaming to fix 404 error message

I just created a new version of my site and switched the site association for benhersey.com address to the new site. Once I changed the site association, benhersey.com no longer took me to ANY site. I gave me an error message. I tried renaming the new site and then publishing to try to reinforce the new site association but I am still getting an error message. Also, when I have gone to publish after renaming, it's still showing the OLD name as the one that will be published.

Please advise!

Hi -

I connected benhersey.com to a site that WAS called newben.homesteadcloud.com. I then renamed that site benhersey921 (which I believe it's currently called, except when I am on that site and try to publish it, it still showing me that it's called "newben"
