How do I use my new domain for a new website I registered with Homestead without it pointing to my old website/domain?

I added another domain I bought and now pay for monthly via Homestead, but I cannot figure out how to start building a website using that new domain. When I go to "manage domains", it points to my first (old) domain, and I cannot choose anything else in the dropdown.

When I try to "start a new website", I put my new domain in, but it just becomes a sub-domain to "homesteadcloud.com". I want it to be my domain.com, without any reference to homestead in the address.

I am not very savvy, so I am probably missing something, but I have read tons of questions and answers and cannot find how to do this.

OK, figured out how to build the starting site using the weird homesteadcloud.com domain, but I still can't associate the new page with my new domain.

The site (well, starting web page) I built now show up as an option to point to when I go to change site association, but when I choose it, I get this error message:

Domain can not be associated to the selected site.

The selected site already has a domain associated to it. WebsiteBuilder supports only 1 domain association for a site at a time. Please disassociate the existing domain and try again.

To start a new website with a new domain on Homestead, log in and go to your Websites Manager, then click "Add New Website" to create a placeholder site. Next, select a design template. For a custom domain, you will likely need to purchase the domain separately and then use Homestead's tools to connect it to your new site.
1. Create a New Placeholder Website
  1. Log in: to your Homestead account.
  2. Navigate to the Websites Manager section.
  3. Click on the "Add New Website" button.
  4. Provide a unique name for the site, which will create a temporary .homesteadcloud.com address.
  5. Click "Add this Site" to create the placeholder.
2. Choose a Template
  1. From the Websites Manager, find and click on the "Choose Design" button for your new site.
  2. Browse and select a template that best fits your vision for the website.
  3. Click "Select this Design" to enter the Website Builder and begin customizing your site.
3. Register a New Domain
  1. Homestead's interface shows that you add a new site with a temporary name and then select a design to enter the editor.
  2. To use a new domain name, you will need to register a domain name separately.
  3. Once registered, follow Homestead's documentation for instructions on how to connect or point your new domain to your website.

How do you transfer a domain from one Homestead account to another?

To transfer a domain between Homestead accounts, you must first initiate the transfer by contacting the current Homestead account holder to get the authorization code, unlock the domain, and update privacy settings within the source account's domain settings. Next, in the new Homestead account, use the "Use a Domain I Already Own" option, enter the domain name, click "Host With Homestead," and then input the authorization code provided by the previous account.
Step-by-step guide:
  1. In the current (source) Homestead account:
    • Unlock the domain: In the domain management section, unlock the domain to make it eligible for transfer.
    • Disable domain privacy: Remove any privacy protection from the domain.
    • Confirm administrative contact email: Ensure the administrative contact email for the domain is correct, as this is where all crucial transfer information will be sent.
    • Obtain the authorization code: Locate and copy the authorization code (also known as an EPP code or transfer key). This code is essential for approving the transfer.
    • Initiate the transfer: In the Homestead interface, add the domain you wish to transfer and select the option for "Use a Domain I Already Own".
  2. In the new Homestead account:
    • Confirm the domain has been with the current provider for at least 60 days: This is a standard rule for most domain transfers.
    • Input the authorization code: Enter the authorization code into the designated field to confirm the transfer process.
    • Approve the transfer: Follow the prompts to approve the transfer.
  3. Finalize the transfer:
    • Complete the process: The transfer process typically takes 5 to 7 days to complete. You may receive informational emails from both the current and new Homestead accounts during this time.
