Why is Design Mode missing?

Design Mode is a tool that allows for easy rearranging of the layout of your website with drag and drop functionality. This is controlled by a javascript that is included in the Footer.html panel of your design template. If this panel has been removed from your Footer.html file, then it will not function correctly.

1.) Login to your store's control panel.
2.) Click on Design.

3.) Click on the Template Files tab.

4.) Scroll down to the Panels folder and click the plus sign next to it.

5.) Now, find Footer.html in the new list of files, and click Compare.

6.) Here, on the left side you'll see the standard file contents. On the right is your custom file contents. In the screenshot below, you can see that the Design Mode variable is missing from my Footer.html file.

7.) To replace it, simply copy the %%GLOBAL_DesignModeHTML%% variable, and go back to the list of template files.
8.) Now, click Edit on Footer.html.

9.) Here, paste the variable on a blank spot above the Query List variable.

10.) Click Save.

You should now be able to open your store in Design Mode.

My Design Mode still isn't functioning, what do I do?

If you have followed the instructions above and verified that the %%GLOBAL_DesignModeScriptTag%% is still in your current Footer.html panel, and you are certain that you're not trying to access Design Mode on a secure page, then go ahead and contact Homestead support via phone, chat or community.
