Shipping Basics
There are two different shipping method types

  1. Real-time shipping quotes. All real-time shipping quotes retrieve shipping rates in real-time from the shipping companies web site when someone is in the process of buying from your store. For example, if I enable and configure the UPS real-time shipping method then when it comes time for a customer to checkout and buy from my store, he/she will see a list of real-time shipping quotes that are retrieved from UPS based on the weight and physical dimensions of the products they are trying to buy. You may choose to enable multiple real-time shipping providers(e.g. UPS & FedEx) for customers to choose between.

  2. Fixed shipping methods. All fixed shipping methods are priced and configured from the shipping settings page and they do not need to retrieve shipping quotes from third parties.
Here are the fixed shipping methods available

    • Flat Rate Per Item

    • Ship By Weight

    • Ship By Order Total

    • Flat Rate Per Order

Store Checkout does not accept shipping address from customers?.

I have been told by customers that the store checkout will not accept their shipping address so I tried it myself. I typed in my name and address as a customer making an order and as soon as I click on the "Ship to this address" link I get the following error message.

"Unfortunately one or more items in your cart can't be shipped to your location. Please choose a different delivery address."

Is there something I have missed somewhere during the update? I have never had this problem before. It is happening during the Step 3: Shipping Details during the Store Checkout.

    HELP!

That error means you are trying to ship to an area that has not zone or method with which to ship. Take a look at this topic.

I have the same issue. I setup a zone for the US for USPS and receive a similar error. I did setup a USPS account and am testing against the test server.

I am having the same error message that Betty was receiving. I feel like I followed everything as in the tutorial but neither ups or usps will give me any quotes. It's asking for a different delivery address (which, even if I change it, does not make a difference.)

Help, I want to launch today!

It looks like you figured it out, though your zone is enable for free shipping. Edit the zone settings and uncheck that box and you should get just the shipping options.

I'm also having this "can't ship this product to this address" problem. Some above seemed to have found the answer, but didn't say what was the fix. I tried to call the tech support line, but after a looooong wait had to leave. Help anyone??

The error seems to indicate that there is a problem with the FedEx account or that maybe you mistyped the key. Can you check on that please.

My USPS account is activated and I switched the server to production. When I'm in the shipping methods option and try the "Get Shipping Quote" at the bottom, it fails. When I try "Get Quote" from the Action Menu in the Edit Shipping Zone, it works. When I try from the shopping cart, it still gets the error message that it can't be shipped to your location.

Can someone please take a look at my account? Thanks!

my BigCommerce Back Office shows a Pending order of $ .95, but my Credit Card Statements shows being charged $ 11.95. I thought I went in and lowered shipping costs prior to whatever happened ? I need to know how to lower shipping amount before it captures the sale. I have my Authorize.net set at Authorize only. That little credit card logo is still there telling me "click" to capture funds ... it's already captured the funds .. the incorrect funds !

I think this relates to what i'm asking ...

    https://support.bigcommerce.com/quest...

But, I'm set to just "authorize" only already ... I manually lowered shipping cost and I guess I couldn't get to "capture" after that

We have a slight problem here, you need to run a test before you call them to activate the USPS account. Once the test is good, then you call them to activate, turn on, your account, or at least that is what the instructions say, as follows:
"Your Web Tools User ID, shown above, is required to test and integrate USPS Web Tools APIs. With this ID, you may begin sending calls to the test server. Depending on the API, the address to the test server is either http://production.shippingapis.com/Sh... or https://secure.shippingapis.com/Shipp.... Use this information in combination with your User ID and your XML string to send a request to the USPS servers. For more details, refer to the programming guides (located at http://www.usps.com/webtools) for the specific API you are integrating.

A sample test request would look like: "http://production.shippingapis.com/Sh..."

When you have completed your testing, email the USPS Internet Customer Care Center (ICCC). They will switch your profile to allow you access to the production server and will provide you with the production URLs.,

The first thing to look for would be to make sure the products have sizes, weights, dimensions, entered. If they don't then the shipping calculator can't determine the amount and it will give that error.

    Hi Drew
I live in Canada and want to offer Free Shipping to all my customers regardless of where they live. I use Canada Post to ship. I am getting the same error message as people above when customers try to buy in the bigC storefront.
I am going to try to go through the steps above, but would like to know if there are different instructions for some one like me.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello,

We have our store up and running but when a customer tries to check out, they receive a message, "Cannot ship to this address, please select another". If they use Paypal checkout, there is no problem. I checked and we have zones and shipping methods set up. Did we miss something else?

    Thanks

Did you figure this out? I did not get the error message when shipping an order to Colorado.

Can you give me a specific group of items to purchase and a city/state to ship to? I will find an address to try.

    Thanks

I'm having the same problem with the error message of can't ship to an address. I am charging shipping based on the order total. I have set shipping zones for United States, switched them back to default, with absolutely no luck. As an update, I am getting the shipping to work correctly thru internet explorer, but not Firefox or safari
