How do I reset my store's administrator password?

If you are not sure what the password is for your BigCommerce control panel, then you do have the option of using the password reset tool.

1.) Go to your store's admin login screen. (Ex. http://www.yourstore.com/admin, http://yourstore.mybigcommerce.com/admin)
2.) Click on the Forgot your Password? link.

3.) Enter the username ('admin' by default) or the email address associated with the user account.


4.) Click the Send Email button.

5.) Then you should see a message informing you to check your email. For the 'admin' account, this is usually the e-mail address you gave BigCommerce when you signed up for your store.

6.) Check your inbox, and you will see an email with a link that you need to click on to reset your password.

7.) Once you click on the link you will be taken back to your control panel login, where you will enter your username or email address and new password.
8.) Then click on the Update button.

9.) You will then be able to login to your BigCommerce control panel using the associated username or email address, and the new password that you have just created.

This is the first I have heard of this....I did not get an email or log in information and it is Dec 18th my email is hobbegirl@yahoo.com website is engravedcrocks.com

I just checked your account and it has not yet been fully converted which would be why you have not been notified yet. Once it's converted, they will send you a link to log in, at which time you'll follow the steps above.

If it's your first time logging in, you have to set the password yourself. You'll need your personal url. store-arjpz.mybigcommerce.com/admin

You'll need to click the forgot password link on this page.

I am told: "The username is incorrect or the passwords don't match. Please check them and try again." when I attempt to enter a new password from the emailed link. I even tried a very simple password to ensure it was retyped correctly and still the same response.

Do you need the format of the user name? It is case sensitive. Your first name is capitalized, as is your middle initial and last name.

Drew, anyway you can give a brief explanation about web pages and product descriptions? The WYSISYG area will not allow me to type anything for edits and none of my current page content is visible to make corrections in that area anyway.

It depends on which page, and exactly what you are trying to edit. Can you explain to us what you wish to edit and we'll point you in the right direction. Also, if it's just the WYSISYG not working, you might try a different web browser. We've had many reports from IE users that it's a bit buggy.

I finally was able to correct the problem. Even though you use an email address as your username it is case sensitive. If you used ANY capital letters in your original email address they are now required for set up. Now my problem is setting up the payment options. Good Luck!

Each of the 4 words in your charter.net email have the first letter capitalized. Give that a try and let us know.

Why is everyone speaking in code here???? Is there a phone number so I can get help? My website looks horrible. Many of the links go to the Homestead site which means, they won't work after Dec. 31. There's gibberish where there should be text or numbers.... There's upside down question marks everywhere. Why did they do this? It's horrible. I practically have to rebuild my site now.

As for the other questions? I don't see any strange characters on the new store, nor does anything I click on take me to the old site. Can you tell me specifically where you are seeing these occurrences?

i already reset my password and i try to log in with my new informaiton but it just keeps coming back to the log inn page and does not say anything, please help i am trying to make the changes but i have changed the password twice and still continue to have the same problem. i want to continue to make the changes i need in order to continue with the new system before the 15th of jan.

Have you tried a different browser? Sometimes there is a strange plugin that might cause odd things to occur.

I was able to log in to your store, unfortunately my user is not allowed to edit users, so I can't reset it for you.

I received the password reset link and got through to step 7. It will not accept my login - email - or a new password. It states the passwords don't match or I don't have the correct email or login. All are correct.

try to clear your browsers cookies/cache, then try again. Let us know if you still have a problem.

Yes, I still have a problem resetting the password. I'm positive the new passwords match. I've cleared cookies & history, tried "admin", email address, and username. Non are successful.

There is a yahoo email address on the account which is where the email would have been sent. Let us know if you can't find the email. Also, be sure to check the junk or spam folder.

There's an AOL email address on the account which is where it should be going? If this is your first time use the word "admin" instead of the email address.

I have followed the instructions as well and never receive an email from BigCommerce. Do I have an old email address listed on my account? What am I missing here? It really shouldn't be this difficult.

HI Kendra6738 when you try to reset the password, have you tried entering the word "admin" instead of your email address? If not give that a try and let us know if you still have problems.

Click the "forgot password" link on the page and it will email you an link to set your administrative password.  Once you do that, you'll be able to log in and manage the site.

I have attempted this numerous times and I get NO new password sent to my email. What do I do now? I don't have tons of time to spend on this and so sometimes it feels easier to just let it all go and move onto a new website host. :(

If you are trying to reset the password on your Bigcommerce store, the reset emal are being sent to your gmail account. Is that the one you are checking? Another possibility is that you are using the wrong link: here's the url for your store; https://store-cr0zsc.mybigcommerce.co...

There is a Comcast email address on record which is where the password reset is being sent. If this is an invalid email account let us know what address should be on the account.

I've been waiting 24 hours to receive a password from bigcommerce using the directions Mike F posted. I have sent a request with 2 different email addresses, how long does it normally take to get a password. Am I supposed to use a specific email address Would like to take care of this asap so my store doesn't crash.

Laurie1013. this is the URL you should be using. If you don't get an email shortly after clicking the forgot password link, then there's a different email address on record than the one you are checking. If we need to change it let us know.

Check your msn.com email address. Look in the spam filter if you don't see it.

Yes, I post this to the right thread...ugh....I've given up on the store....don't care any more.....so frustrated with the changes...so much extra to do, so many ppl on vaca in my office and dealing w/all the email BS...not gonna deal with the store right now.

Very disappointed that you made all these changes at one time!

Ok so iv been playin with the new store seems really good in terms of what i need ...now in our last convo mike in a different topic..you mentioned that i would have to revamp my entire website in order to use big commerce store on my website...how do i go about this im just really confused on what to do here....i just dont understand how homstead offers a store but doesnt mention that you need to redo your website...im not to happy with my site any more so id be willing to do so as our business has grown but just torn a bit? Any advise how i could do this in the easiest way

Jeff7191, The Homestead SiteBuilder and the Bigcommerce Storefront are two separate website building systems. The Storefront is just designed more for people that want to sell online and has many more features. So, basically if you would just need to use the Storefront system to rebuild your site. I'm not sure if this answers your question so if not, please let us know more specifically where you are stuck.
