Gmail down after pointing Google Apps domain

I had purchased my domain through Google Apps, and it is registered through enom. I attempted to point the domain to my homestead sites (using the nameservers in the homestead instructions). When I do this, my Gmail account associated with the domain name goes down. Can I use a google apps domain with my Homestead site while preserving my gmail email?
