How do I see design/templates that are available? I click on change design, but have to cancel out as it says Changing your current design will delete the site pages and files. Our site has been in place for many years. I am very new to updating it and have taught myself the basics, but the page and setup is ugly. Do I just need to change the layout and links?

Yes, choosing change design will delete your entire site. If you want to redesign the entire site, I would recommend creating a new site on your account, give it a temporary site name, build the site, and then move your domain name to this new site. That way, you don't lose your current content and your site remains active while you build the new one. This new site will be built in the newer editor, so your site will be secure with a free SSL and will be mobile-friendly.
