I am running an older computer that still uses XP and I'm running Homestead Sitebuilder. I was able to makes changes 2 days ago and both save and publish. Today, I can save but the system is not allowing me to publish saying I need to close Sitebuilder and reopen so it updates, which I did, to no effect. The window further states that if this does not work, to contact customer support. Why was this working 2 days ago and not today???

Thank you, Drew. Before I attempt completely erasing and re-installing SiteBuilder, give me the worst case scenario as it relates to the content and accessibility I will have afterwards to my website.

I just tried my desktop Sitebuilder again and it published a page, no problem. I didn't do anything. So you might want to try yours again. Hopefully it will work for you too.

If you backup the site files as suggested at the start of the topic and then copy them back to the folder after the install, the worst case is that Sitebuilder still does not work for some reason.
If you don't back up the site files, Sitebuilder will download the published copy when launched.

I appreciate that, Drew. As long as I don't find out after the fact that there are new system requirements or something, I'll give it a shot. I'll follow up afterwards as to whether it worked or not. Thanks again!

I tried to use sitebuilder a number of times and got the same result, save but not published so it isn't going to be that easy for me. I've started the reinstall, saved files, etc but now it is telling me I'm offline (which obviously is not the case as I am typing and sending this) and will not proceed. Why did I ever think this would be trouble free?

MonzaSpyder, it is an old program and can be difficult sometimes. Did you manually delete the folders too?

R.9229: That's encouraging! I'm glad you're back up and running without having to go through a litany of steps in order to get to that point. I'll re-visit mine later this afternoon and will hopefully share the same results as yourself.

I did, yes. I can get to the opening screen where I input my login and password but then a window pops up stating I am offline (which I am not, since I'm conversing here)

And I understand that you are unable to log in to Homestead via Internet Explorer? Do you get an error there too? If so, what is the error?

Update: Along with R.9229, I'm also now able to publish. I did nothing other than open SiteBuilder as I usually do. I'm not sure if it was updated since I didn't see an update window appear as I would expect, but it's seemingly back to being fully functional.

yes, cannot log in via IE. have been with customer support for over an hour and nothing changed.

Drew8806, are you able to log in to www.homestead.com using Internet Explorer? If so, which version do you have? You are on Windows XP too, correct?

Just got off the phone with customer service and they do not have a fix for my problem. I'm told that it has been kicked up to "development" for them to find a fix for myself and one other user in my shoes. I suppose I'll wait for the email that will allow me to use Homestead again. I guess I can use Sitebuilder pluss but I SO MUCH PREFER the desktop sitebuilder.

Unfortunately I have probably lost all the stuff I had saved but not yet published. I backed it all up but during this process this afternoon of troubleshooting, i was told to delete ALL files with homestead or sitebuilder in them. Realized what I'd done moments after I hit delete on that particular file. D'OH.

I think that you got the wrong version of Sitebuilder. Can you uninstall it and delete the folder and install it using this link? http://supportdownloads.homestead.com/sitebuilder.zip

I believe you were sent the sitebuilderdotnet.zip file. That version is for Windows Vista and later.

Ok. Did they have you uninstall the Microsoft Java Virtual machine too? If not you can uninstall that from control panel, and Sitebuilder and then reboot and install Sitebuilder. It should install the javam machine automatically.

Used your most recent download, nothing changed. Still type in login and password, hit run and all i get is the same "Not Connected" window telling me I am offline.

In in the control panel under software or programs you do not see Microsoft Java virtual machine(jvm) in the list? To run Sitebuilder on Windows XP, that is a required program. You will not see it in your application list, you must go to control panel.

The sitebuilder never asked or offered to download any java app. A few downloads agao ti did ask me to download "Microsoft Visual J #" which it did, still to no effect.

J# is for the incorrect version for XP. That is for later versions of Windows. I am looking to try to find it, but the zip file I just sent you should have tried to install it.

Well, it has been 2 weeks and I have not heard anything from homestead about a possible resolution. Getting a little frustrated as I lost everything I did that day (because i was instructed by a couple different people to remove everything related to homestead from my computer) and Sitebuilder plus is not nearly as user friendly (to me) as my original sitebuilder. I need this fixed, ASAP please!!!

I am sorry. I have still been working on this, but I have not been able to get desktop working on an XP machine. I am not sure exactly where the problem lies, but Microsoft J# seems to not be loading right. Since Microsoft no longer supports XP, they will not help with this. I am not sure there is anything we can do. We are still usually able to get newer Windows versions to run Sitebuilder desktop. That may be the best bet.

Which newer version would I need to get? Not sure how far up I can go without bogging down my old system and slowing down other programs/games I use.

In any case, a reinstall should only improve the performance of Sitebuilder, but I am glad you are back on.
