why would i be charged to rename a domain

I don't think you can rename a domain as in abcd.com to abcdefg.com but I'm pretty sure you can purchase the domain name you want then turn the other back to homestead. If your talking about your mysite.homestead.com or mysite.homesteadcloud.com site I believe you can do this from the websites manager page. It's under "MORE" . You should find a link to rename your site.

Steve is correct, you cannot rename a domain. If you have abc.com there is no way to edit that name as it is registered as is. You will need to register the new domain you want to change it to. There is a charge for registering a new domain, there will be a $5 one time set up fee and it will add $2 per month to the account to host the domain. If you replace a domain, delete one current domain and replace it with a new one your monthly bill will stay the same. Editing a site name such as abc.homestead.com will not charge your account.
