The https is not available on Homestead sites. At this point in time it isn't critical to have it, but Homestead is keeping an eye on it for the future.

Thank you Susan. I am curious why they don't have the option of the SSL and certificate.  Do you know why?  Can I buy a certificate an install on my site individually?  If it affects ranking, I need it.

It is important if you want your website to show up higher in the search results as it is one of many algorithms that are used to determine.
https = secure   http = unsecure

Then the certificate is important.  Thank you!

Yes you can buy it and install for your site. This does affect ranking and search results.

The effect is greatly exaggerated. Currently the ranking effect is only a tie breaker. If every other ranking factor is exactly the same the https will rank just above the http. We continue to monitor this, but all the hype out there is just hype at this time. In the future it will likely become more important. This is why we keep an eye on it.

Hi Drew,
Do you know if others have purchased the security certificate and installed on homestead sites?  I have already had two different clients comment about the http:  so I'm thinking its important for me.  If I purchase it, is there technical support with homestead to help me install it?

SSL is not supported on Homestead at this time. I know that past certificates were made in a way that would make it impossible for someone to add it to the site on their own. If you have the requirements to install it, I can certainly let you know.

In 2014! Google officially announced their decision to start using Https as a ranking signal. 3 years ago. This has absolutely gained weight over time.  Almost all experts recommend it as part of an overall SEO strategy. Doing so will benefit the security of your site (and your customers), but there can also be additional SEO benefits to consider as well. Almost all experts recommend it as part of an overall SEO strategy. Google Analytics becomes even more useful with HTTPS since unlike HTTP, the security data of the website that referred to you is saved--meaning that referral sources won't appear just as "direct traffic." For SEO alone, this gives HTTPS an edge. Like any good security system, HTTPS helps both website operators and their users feel safe. The security helps you avoid monetary damages and data theft as well as damage to your site's authority or reputation.
