This conversation has been merged. Please reference the main conversation: Continued data migration 12/12/2014

We are currently migrating accounts to a new, faster and more secure data center. Some customers are unable to access Sitebuilder desktop. In many cases, you will be able to launch Sitebuilder Plus from within your Homestead account, so you can make your edits. We are working as quickly as possible to make the transition to the new center and get your desktops back online. We are very sorry for the inconvenience.

Some very large accounts with 40+ websites, or sites with several hundred pages, may not be able to launch Plus.

We are very sorry for this inconvenience and assure you we are doing everything possible to resolve this.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled SiteBuilder login problem.

I also cannot log into SiteBuilder. I am getting box with: "You may have entered an incorrect User ID or password. Please try again. Remember, passwords are casese-nsitive." I changed password - still doesnt work. I was able to log in via general Homestead website to land here. Urgent updating needed. regards, Mareko

Keith,

Things seem to be intermittent.  The SB Desktop program worked great this morning, but tonight it's not.  In fact, I just shut it down so that I could re-load it.  I'm hoping when it loads, all of my pages will be in tact.  I had a bunch of text boxes missing from several pages, and I hope they don't look like that when I get the program back up again. The same is true for our sites' visibility on the net.  Sometimes they are visible and sometimes they're not.

All I can say is some websites were down today for different periods of time. Guess today wasn't a good day to try to edit and publish websites. There is also hurricane weather in the atmosphere. Maybe near the satilite??

I don't know about the hurricane theory, but it was definitely a bad day to edit and publish my websites.

This is the only place I could find to write in a comment, so I hope it works...

Susan, thanks for the feedback.

One of the computers I tried had never had Homestead on it, so it had to be a clean install, but that didn't work!  (I might have tried to set up another account, as it might be that my name and password are tainted as far as that goes, though I can get onto the homestead.com site.)

I hope that someone will provide complete instructions once things are workable again!!!!

You need to completely delete Homestead from your computer in the add remove. Then run Ccleaner. I used OBit uninstaller which shredded all evidence of homestead. Then did a clean install. It is working fine for me at the present.

I cannot log in using my desktop SiteBuilder LPX: "There has been an error loggin in."  I found another similar issue here among the conversations, where it was recommended to use IE 10 to log in to the Homestead website and launch the SiteBuilder from there... however, this only gives me another error "Cannot connect to Server".  PLEASE HELP!!  I have a dozen different sites, several of which have critical, time sensitive updates!!

No I don't set Ccleaner default to delete everything. There are passwords etc that you want to save. Been using Ccleaner for at least 5 years and it doesn't screw up my computer. It gets rid of mixed commands that causes certain programs not to work. It is not much more than cleaning the cache from Firfox, Internet exp, and google and past downloads, besides fragments not needed to run certain programs. I use it at least once a week.

There's actually a bit more involved for different people.  It is dependant on what operating system you have.  I was given this link from a HS tech tonight.

https://community.homestead.com/homestead/topics/how_do_i_do_a_complete_re_install_of_sitebuilder_desktop

But I’d like Drew to weigh in on whether it is a worth while endevor please. Thanks.

Latest word I got was that the migration was still not complete.

What say you Drew?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Can not access Domains or Site Builder (STILL) 1 week now.

Ok so here's the scoop STILL. I have 2 accounts with you with over 100 domains bringing my monthly bill to 400 a month...do the math, $400 x 12= 4800.00 Dollars. I can not still access my domains, point domain, copy sites, launch site builder or COLLECT CHECKS..! This is the prime season where customers need work done, updates and so on.  I just went on another clients homestead account and was able to access everything. So why can't i under either of my accounts.  You guys state that you are doing a data center update. I just do not understand why my clients account which pays you $19.99 a month has every feature working and my accounts do not.! This has been over a week now since the 14th of November..!!!!! When can i expect you to get your stuff together so i can make changes, updates and point domains so i can collect checks and PAY YOUR BILL...! But i can gladly call homestead and they can point a domain right, YEAH after being on hold for an hour.! Thanks again for providing AWESOME service!!!

Hi Drew, The main issues I have are:
#1  Homestead must have known about this for the past 3 days - and other than your thoughtful comments - they officially mentioned nothing to us;
#2  Having known about this, they should have simply stopped whatever process the were doing (updating, etc.) and reverse course until they can proceed without affecting the desktop version.
#3  This occurred right before Thanksgiving...which means I have not been able to publish my many holiday pages that I previously created on my desktop which was set to be published this weekend for Holiday specials....thus, having great consequence for my office advertisements.
#4  The lite online version does not maintain the same formatting for my navigation menus that were created on the desktop version (I have spent 2 years with numerous techs who said I need to continue with the desktop version unless I start over the entire website on the lite version -- not a possibility).

I much appreciate your input this weekend, but Homestead's customer service was strikingly absent (I can't even say poor since there was nothing to even comment on...which is very disappointing).

I HAVE A WORK-AROUND THAT WILL ALLOW YOU TO ACCESS YOUR “LOCKED” WEBSITES. I’ve been a Homestead developer since 1999 and have dealt with several versions of SiteBuilder. Like you, I’ve recently had the problem of not being able to access my websites, either with the desktop version or the SiteBuilder Plus version on their website. I maintain 70+ websites and several are over 100 pages, so SiteBuilder Plus won’t work for me. Tonight, I figured out a process that allows me to once again access and modify my websites. Devising this process has taken me a significant amount of time and sharing it with you will require several hours of my time and yours. To compensate me for this time, I’m charging $100 to share the process with you.  I’m working on a first-come, first-serve basis and I suspect the process will get slower as more people start to use it, so if you’re interested, email me immediately at retirementtips@yahoo.com. I’ll then share my credentials so you’ll know I’m legitimate and will explain the steps to accessing the process.

Sitebuilder Plus must be for really small websites. I just tried it on one of mine with 4 pages and gave up waiting after about 5 minutes. Going back to desktop with my work-around - takes a little time, but not as much as Plus.

I can access Sitebuilder Plus and updated parts of my business website today. This is something I have to do on average twice a month. For all practical purposes, however, Sitebuilder Plus is not even close to as good a tool as the desktop program that I cannot access anymore, starting from the fact that to work faster, I need to have several pages open at the same time when editing and making changes. I do not only add information but also have to edit accordingly a number of existing pages.

Also, where can I find and change the key search words that I inserted in the past for every page? Now when editing old pages and updating and changing page content, I'm afraid that the old and not updated search words are still there some place and may mislead people looking for relevant information.

Finally, the way my pages are set up, I was simply not able to update them all using Sitebuilder Plus and the updates I made took twice the time compared to using the desktop tool.

I therefore hope you get the desktop tool back up and running soonest possible as if not, the only viable option is to change service provider after 7 years for one that offers a service comparable to what Homestead used to provide.

Did you publish from Plus? Are the changes on the live site? If so, then desktop should have offered a download option for each changed page. If you didn't publish from Plus, then desktop has no way to know. Each Sitebuilder syncs with the published site, not each other, just like if you had desktop on 2 different computers.

I build and host websites via Homestead for other clients. I have not been able to access SiteBuilder in several days, which is preventing me from doing requested maintenance on not only my personal websites, but my clients' websites as well. I'm just learning about the "Planned Maintenance" after not being able to access my account via SiteBuilder. As a customer, and a web developer, this is a huge inconvenience. My clients don't understand that their sites are unavailable because of Homestead's planned maintenance when they have paid me for a service. I want to know if we will be credited for the time that we have been unable to access, make changes and/or updated our accounts due to your planned maintenance? I am not even able to access my domain names in order to validate those that are required to be validated. As a Homestead customer since 2006, I am extremely unhappy about this situation.

glenda7016,

We
are sorry for the inconvenience. Have you tried loading any sites you
need to edit in Sitebuilder Plus. Some people are able to use Plus to
edit until the maintenance resolves the issue with desktop. I was able to pull a couple of your sites up in Plus.

As
for domains, if you need to edit contact information on a domain, we
are able to do that for you, just provide us the domain name and the
changes you need.

I attempted to use Sitebuilder Plus yesterday, and was thoroughly confused by the difficulty of it, which only annoyed me more. I know Sitebuilder like the back of my hand, not Sitebuilder Plus. It's bad enough that you guys switched the email interface that we were accustomed to and forced us to basically figure out the new platform. I really don't need anything else making my job harder than it already is. :(

Glenda I truly feel for you - been there done that and I was so frustrated and confused trying to use Plus. It's difficult to transition from one platform to another especially when Plus is not the most intuitive of builders. We can run Desktop in our sleep, but even though I've used Plus a lot it still isn't a smooth use and still takes twice as long to do things. But hang in there and just keep plugging away - it will become less confusing and you'll be able to get your necessary changes made.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Wonder if this is Homesteads way of getting us ALL to change over to Site Builder Plus?  I have over 40 web sites for clients that are with Desktop Site Builder.  NO WAY am I changing to the Plus. It would change the look of all my sites and everything will be out of line and just screwed up!

I have changes to make right now and cannot get into my sites.  Clients don't understand..,they just know they have paid big bucks to have a web site that works, gets updated, etc.

When I spoke with Homestead on Friday...the gal walked me through the steps with IE and changing the 10, bla bla bla.  When that didn't work...she put me on hold and came back to say...there was nothing else they could do.  She would let the higher ups know about this problem.  So they didn't start working on the problem until someone alerted them.

So people, I would say we are screwed.  It is the week end and the holiday is coming up.  Are they working on it or not?

Drew, I too have had a very difficult time accessing sites with Desktop.  I'm not going to risk using Plus because it has caused issues with my sites even before the migration.  I was able to access using your F12 suggestion with IE several times.  But was only able to publish twice during the last few weeks.  Today I had access to one of the sites through desktop for about 30 minutes, but again was unable to publish and then lost the connection.. I have tried on both Windows 7 & Vista.  Both used to work just fine, but neither has been since the migration.  Do you know if it will be necessary to re-install Sitebuilder desktop once the migration is complete?  I did a re-install yesterday after uninstalling and using a "cleaner" on one machine, but it did not help.

Drew,

Let me ask...do you have any navigational bars or logos that were created years back with SB Desktop on your site?  Those elements disappearing is the main problem that occurred when I bought a laptop with Windows 7.  When those elements were so called "no longer available" and disappeared from my pages, I determined that SB Desktop did not work with Windows 7.  How can it be said that the program works just fine with Windows 7 when that happens?  Losing navigational bars (sometimes three of them on one page) and a logo is a super big glitch to me.  So again, I ask...do you have any of those things on your site?  If so, why is that yours don't disappear?  If not, then that explains how you can say SB Desktop works fine with Windows 7.

Lynn,

I have no more logos on my sites as they were removed in Sitebuilder Plus. I changed them all to a standard image element. Navigation elements from older sites transitioned to Win 7 and 8.1. The only problem we have noted between Win XP and later versions was difficulty in launching Sitebuilder. Once desktop is launched, then it should act no different, other than some occasional alignment issues. I now more understand your statements regarding Windows 7, but there are tons of people that made the desktop switch, not always painlessly, but certainly with less issues they you apparently had. Without going back in time, I really can't troubleshoot the issues you had. If they were common, I would have a topic up here in the community.

More than my sites, I launch dozens of sites of all ages on my Win 7 and 8.1 machines every week to assist customers and I do not see the issues you are describing. If you can cause this issues again, once we are fully back again, then please let us know. I would be happy to see if we can find a fault and a resolution.

Drew,

The same thing happened in the last few days.  Because of this migration thing, I had to use SB Desktop.  I knew I would have problems with it, but I had no other way to update my large site.  I had to copy and paste my navigational menus from one page to the corrupted pages.  For some reason, the program leaves some pages in tact and it removes the elements from the others.

Yes, when Sitebuilder desktop comes back online, when you first launch it, you will be prompted that pages are different. To sync, you will tell desktop to download the published page and it will do so.

I just made changes to my site with SB Desktop, but then I noticed a few things are missing from the pages. I saved my changes, but I didn't Publish.  I better wait for my site to become accessible with SB Plus, right?  Or...I should close SB Desktop and re-open it to see what is and what isn't there now?

As a customer of Homestead for 7 years, I’m a developer using Sitebuilder desktop and have achieved extremely fast results using as opposed to Plus.

I’m also suffering some early financial losses with clients.  I pray that there will not me much more!  My biggest fear right now is a new client who is expecting new page development by early week is that he won’t get upset enough with me to dump me!!!

Sidenote of possible interest* Homestead reported, back on Oct. 15 that “email delivery and website slowness were a result of a DDoS attack against their platform”.

I wonder if this is why they are having overall problems.  The entire system seems to be very unstable.  It appears to me that the entire system is defending against this attack and maybe resulting in them moving the server to AZ, so I’ve heard.

Nonetheless, I’m hopeful and quite aware that Homestead has much riding on their ability to complete their apparent, overhaul.  I’m rooting for the techs involved in fixing this!

Let’s be optimistic and send out good vibes to the Homestead teams!  No doubt they are frantically trying to solve all.  I would expect them to be working on this over the weekend while the phone techs are off.

Drew is it anticipated that  accounts "locked out" will have access ??  I like many on here honestly dont have the time for a  learning curve, and had to this morning edit a site using PLUS, the text was all misaligned after publishing and I find that the plus is running extremely slow... Whats odd is that allthough I am locked out of my main account I am able to access other accounts that only have single sites in them ..  Would it be possible to push sites into another account ?? I APPRECIATE the time you have spent to address posts .. Im honestly in PANIC mode this morning, this is my lively hood.

Victoria I am able to log in to my small accounts with no problem, but not the large main account. Suggest you just give them a try and see if you can access.

You need to completely delete Homestead from your computer in the add remove. Then run Ccleaner. I used OBit uninstaller which shredded all evidence of homestead. Then did a clean install. It is working fine for me at the present.

dlw2,

You may be able to launch your sites in Sitebuilder Plus, online. I was able to bring one of your sites up.

Thanks again Drew for doing your very best to be on top of this. I have every bit of faith that the engineers will get us all back up shortly. I have over 90 sites and a ton of work to do, but at this point all I can do is say that homestead.com has never let me down before and I know they'll get this solved shortly. Can't wait to get things back to normal. Amen!

The engineers tell us it should be somewhat better than normal, even if you don't directly see all the ways.

Site Builder Plus is the only way to get prefab webtemplates. I wish Intuit would drop the .homestead and go with something shorter like .hs as in shawndutton.hs.com There is no justice for this glitch I have lost some accounts and I have businesses begging me for help but can't help them at this time not until sitebuilder lpx comes back up. Affiliate managers will loose their jobs, revenue will be lost. This is the 4th biggest Homestead disaster I have seen in 12 yrs and this is the worse one.
I'm not as mad at Intuit as I em myself last time i swore I would migrate some of my sites to another service like Bluehost. I didn't get around to it and now I'm blown out of the water for cyber Monday once again.
all I want for xmas is my sitebuilder back...

Hi Shawn - cute graphic!  Just an FYI - Intuit no longer owns Homestead. They sold out to Endurance International Group last year, but have retained the Homestead name.

Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving and I sure hope that you get SiteBuilder back WAY before Christmas! :)

Does anyone know why, when I go in to sitebuilder plus, it shows my website from a year ago.  I just need to update the hours on the current site...since site builder is down, I thought I would use plus...but the site in there is last years, not the published version...it's so crucial that I change the hours, so any help would be really appreciated.  Thank you.

There are rumors circulating on the web that Endurance may do away with sitebuilder desktop. Intuit never put any money into it and Endurance don't want to put money into it. In my opinion there is no glitch this may well be the end of a dying product. Endurance knows web hosting they have taken over 30+ companies including HostGator. HostGator is a popular "adult content' hosting company. Not all hosting companies allow adult content esp. Homestead. Homestead was dead when Intuit dumped it. I'm hoping Endurance will dump the sitebuilder desktop and offer all it's users in 30+ companies a really state of the art online sitebuilder. We need message boards, better rss feeds, some kind of email service for mailing lists, better domain control, better support not outsourced to Asia. We need more control with our content, we don't need Homestead standing on our head telling us what we can and cannot do. I'm finished with leftover dog food, dump sitebuilder desktop and give us something we can be proud to pioneer for Endurance. Drop the name Homestead from our sites we need a shorter url. Your spindle speed will thank you for it.

Hi Shiela,
Following is an explanation about what is going on:

"We are currently migrating accounts to a new, faster and more secure data center.

The original estimate for the maintenance was 2-3 weeks and we're a good week into this already. Not everyone will be affected and not everyone will be down for the entire time. If you don't have 40+ websites or sites with several hundred pages you may want to consider switching to Plus if you have critical updates to make. You can always switch back to Desktop when things are at 100%.

Hope this gives you a bit more clarity on what's happening.

Host Gator sucks, their customer service is absolutley horrible, and at this point after 12 years with Homestead or whomever...I am beginning to think Homestead, Intuit and Endurance all suck as well.  To do this to loyal customers after all these years is unacceptable.

With 40+ web sites...do they realize how much work it will be to get caught up and change the things that will be out of line, etc. if I have to start using Site Builder Plus.  I am beyond pissed at this point.

I have sites that need updating and this has been going on since Thursday.  Again unacceptable! Sad, because they know there is NOTHING we can do, but wait on them to figure out what they screwed up!

Straight Up
This is what I have always hated about Homestead their moderators have always imposed their own belief systems on us. I understand what your saying Drew and it does have to be a discussion on a somewhat professional level. Patsy Ann is having some kinda Sitebuilder desktop withdrawal. I em to, I would rather share that with Patsy than have Homestead pretend like it's ok, it's not ok it's CYBERMONDAY I'm not just loosing sales I'm loosing all my stats for 2014 with all my hard work marketing on social media, youtube and everywhere else. Besides all that I'm loosing friends Affiliate managers I have built rapport with over the years. Endurance can make me happy give me a better product, better service and a more open minded discussion board. This is why I never ever use this message board, but I can't design sites now so I'm stuck here with 7 million other people.

Patsy we can't use old junk for ever we will need each others help to learn a new system and a new way of life, I'm pretty sure their going to ditch the Sitebuilder desktop it never amounted to anything other than failure. It was a great ride but lets move on...

I've been using desktop Sitebuilder for 15 years, through several different versions, maintain about 70+ websites with it, and have no complaints. It's provided me with a great retirement supplement since I retired in 1999. I don't plan to "move on" anytime soon.

hobm2m1989,

We are sorry you are unable to update the site at this time. The data migration is interfering with some people's ability to connect. We do have support available, here and online chat as well as phone support, but support will not be able to assist. We must complete the migration.

So what is everyone going to do?  Wait 2 or 3 weeks to get into their web sites or changing over to the Site Builder Plus so you can work?  Please advise.

I have web sites ready to design...but do I even want to tackle that with this company with all this crap going on?

I'm going to wait there is nothing else we can do. This is a lot bigger than Homestead Sitebuilder desktop, this is the future of the Internet. Endurance has cornered the market on small hosting companies. 30+ now
I'm kinda hoping for a change...

It's SMOKE AND MIRRORS AT THIS POINT.
I like the add ons BlueHost offers but their graphics is super bad they optimize graphics so bad it looks like a worn out coloring book by the time work gets published. I don't blame endurance we need a change. Forbes says there is only 7 million users on Homestead now with a $146m yearly profit. It's a failed system we need a big change to continue.
