Where do I actually place keywords in my website.

Where do I place keywords in my website. I know about page name & description(meta tags) but what about actual keywords. I'ts been about 10 years since I played with a website & sure rules have changed. Would appreciate help. Thank you. Rich

Hi Rich,

Yep, things have changed. Google, et al no longer view a keyword list as relevant. There was too much keyword stuffing going on. You still write for the human visitor, but utilize the on page content to present your key words and phrases.

When you mean on page content is that what one visually sees on your home page?

Yes. The search engines do not count meta keywords any longer. To be considered by the search engine, the words must be visible to site visitors, in the natural content on the pages.

Yes. The content is the copy on the page explaining the product, service or intent of the site. Visit any site and the paragraphs, sentences, lists, etc. are the on page content. You will see key words and phrases within that copy that target the theme of the site. The search engines utilize that to index your site.

Susan is correct. Your keywords should simply be in the natural content of your webpages.

Here are some items you might want to consider changing:
1. Page width - You don't want visitors to have to scroll left and right so the page width should be set accordingly. 960 to 1200 should make it ok for most users - the exception will be mobile users.
2. Content is king and is what the Search Engines use in determining how your site is indexed and also gives your visitors information about your product. Consider adding content on the Home page that gives a generalized overview of your products, uses, etc. Your individual pages should then offer a more focused explanation of each product.
3. I would suggest removing the scrolling pictures and just use a single image of each product.
4. Including an address offers more credibility to a site. If you don't have an actual store just use your business name, city and state. A phone number is also helpful.
