When I enter my new web site on Facebook, no preview shows up. Is this FB or Homestead?

I'm now trying to give some visibility to my new site by posting it on some Facebook pages and groups.  When I enter the web address, there's no preview pane, just the web address.  I tried entering other addresses and that brought up a preview pane but not my www.bfccityconcerns.org site.  Is there something I need to add to my site so embedding an address will generate a preview?

Hey Rose,

In Website Builder, specifying which image to use for Facebook gets a little bit complicated.

If you want to specify what image is used when someone shares/posts/likes your website on Facebook you can add this snippet of code under Manage>Advanced>Site Meta Tags:

<meta property="og:image" content="http://www.domain.com/image.jpg"/>
Make sure you have already uploaded your image and published it.
Your picture will look best if it is square and at least 200x200
You just need to change the URL in the code to the address of the published image you want to use.

To find the image URL, you need to go to your site, right click and "View Page Source". Then, search the page for .png, .jpg, or .jpeg and click on the image links until you find the one you want to use.

After you've added the code there and published, if it doesn't work, you will need to run your website URL through the Facebook Debugger so they will crawl the site and make the update:

I feel like I'm getting closer ... your suggestion did work for the preview of our website on FB :) Is there html code I can enter to specify the image to use for the preview of our website when the link to our web address is inserted in an email message (see error I receive above)?

Ah, sorry. I thought that meta tag would work with that as well, but if it is not working, I do not know the code for it. It is probably something you can find on Google, it just isn't anything we know of to give you.

OH MY GOSH! I continued to dig a little and found something that made it work although I don't understand why at all. It had something to do with the cache. It said, to re-post the same link again (after implementing the changes you suggested above), add a parameter at the end of the url. I tried it and it worked! I simply re-posted with www.example.com?1

I'm using Homestead's stock image.  Is that possibly the problem?

Ah, yes. It would need to be an uploaded image.

I saved the image to my computer and uploaded it to the site.  I now get this on the debug:

Provided og:image, https://storage.googleapis.com/wzukusers/user-34196694/images/5b7f0db83cc9bh4QajmC%2Fbfccchomephoto.... could not be downloaded. This can happen due to several different reasons such as your server using unsupported content-encoding. The crawler accepts deflate and gzip content encodings.

I've done all the steps you listed, Elysaeth...copied the Site Meta Tags code, found the URL for the image, saved and published.  Didn't work so I went to FB to debug and it still comes up as this:

The following required properties are missing: og:url, og:type, og:title, og:description, fb:app_id

Okay, okay, okay :) :) :)  I FINALLY got it to work after entering the code over and over again and debugging and debugging but it finally works!!!  Thank you for the steps.

Hello again.  Here with a follow-up question. I want to post a link to an event on my web site (Event page) but when I go to post it on FB, it shows the image from my home page (see above in previous comment).  Is there a way to list html for each page so it won't keep showing the same image no matter what page I'm linking on Facebook?  I hope that question was clearer than mud. :)

Can you enter html where it says Meta Tags?

I apologize, it is something that is possible in Sitebuilder Plus but currently not Website builder. I just looked into it, and it would actually need to be in Page HTML but apparently there is a current ticket out for that issue, because it doesn't work. So right now, no unfortunately it wouldn't be possible. There is no ETA on that since it is pretty low impacting issue and they have much larger scale changes they are focusing on implementing. We will add your account to the ticket though.

Okay, well thank you for looking into it.  Like you said, not a major issue.  I'll look for it down the road. :)

Of course, sorry for my mistake, and thank you for your understanding.
