Angela,

I will try to keep the conversation as productive as possible within your guidelines to help out intuit from a customers point of view. I have been with Homestead since around 2001 or 02. Here are a a few of the problems i see from customers points of view:

1) When i had first joined Homestead it was based on a recommendation. Back then, the whole basis i joined on was that i was able to take full control of my website and receive tech help in irder to build out the site and promote it.

2) The old method that Homestead used to do business under has changed dramatically due to the following:

A) Site Builder Plus is no where as user friendly as the old Sitebuilder. I dont mind having to be online instead of downloading the program, but it is not as self explanatory.

B) Where the old Homestead was all about strickly helping customers accomplish their own goals, the new Intuit has become more based on getting you drawn in on a teaser basis, then upgrading or selling you services. It seems to me that when i call for tech help or information, i first get routed to a call center in the Philipines, then wait to have the call elevated to a senior tech in the U.S.A. At that point i will receive tech help with reservations while it is explained to me that i did "ok" with my website, but i am not a professional and they are at Intuit. They then explain to me that they can get me better results if I let them rebuild my site. When i asked them the cost of that, they explain it is around $1800.00.

3) Feature have become more limited in certain areas, such as "Keywords". Keywords now seem to be limited to what you can list in yout page title tag and description. Certain artwork that was supported under the old Sitebuilder is no longer supported, etc.

In closing, I feel that the basic concept and service has changed with the Homestead/Intuit transition. I realize that time is money and that Intuit reps cant spend endless hours on the phone with customers, but I feel returning to a more user friendly program along with making a certain amount of tech help available with your standard monthly package would be good. If customers are looking for something more specific as far as their site growth, you may want to consider allowing us to purchase some time based consultations with a upper level tech.

P.S. was that e-mail about following the rules of the posts and banning directly to me, or was it to everyone on the blog?

Thank You

Kris Winters

I joined upon seeing Homestead recommended by the university of which I was an alumna. I image whoever did that is long gone. They also recommen Manulife Flexcare so you know how well they can be trusted.

Back then, in 2001 or so, when I joined, it was free! then they have you in this situation where it is very difficult to leave.

Hi Kris,

Thank you for your thoughtful and informative comments. I'd also like to sincerely thank you for being a longtime and valuable customer.

I will be passing your comments on to our product and development teams. I am also working at getting the members of those teams more engaged in this community. Overall, I want to say - we hear you. We're looking at your comments. The comment you've provided is wonderful feedback for our team to think about - from a customer service perspective, product usability, and first use experience. It's all very good feedback.

I've heard a lot about old Homestead, new Homestead, Intuit, etc. Although I've only been with the company for 3 years- I love the direction that we're headed. I'm going to ask you to be patient -we're going through some transition but we'll be sending out updates to our customers soon. We are excited about our future at Homestead!

My post wasn't aimed at you or at one individual person. I want to emphasize that this community is a place for us to all engage in conversations to improve the product, experience, and more. When it's all said and done, we hope that you leave the community knowing more than you did when you entered. I removed a few posts that weren't productive and I posted my message to be a reminder of what's expected from employees and our community members.

Thanks again for your comments. I look forward to seeing you more in this community!

Cheryl,

I do publish more often now, since losing a lot of data on a very long page (story of my life which is getting quite long). the part that got deleted was at the beginning, and I was editing the last part, so I don't know how it happened, and didn't see it coming. I published, and lost it.

I have been unable to keep my links, when moving text from one text box to another. And it is google chrome that I use to get into SB+. Well, it's done now, so it doesn't matter, for now. It just makes more work.

But I still find that with SB+, if I click on an image on my page, all the text and images (the whole page) shift to the left to accommodate the page info box. sometimes, the image I have clicked on is not only hidden, so that I have to go to the bottom to shift the part of the page I am viewing over to the right more, but it can be displaced farther down the page and I have to bring it up and up until I find where it was located to put it back.

It would be nice to have access to both the plus version and desktop version of the software. How to gain access to both without messing up my account at this point?

Hi Tracy,

I've set your account to have access to both Sitebuilder Plus and Sitebuilder Desktop. A couple suggestions as you move forward -

When you work in Sitebuilder Plus
  • You may not be able to edit some elements on your site that you can edit in Sitebuilder Desktop.

  • Some elements that are available in Sitebuilder Plus - image effects, traffic booster (add on service) are not available in Sitebuilder Desktop.

  • When you switch between the two editors - it can cause some elements to disappear on your live site until you publish from Sitebuilder Plus again.

  • If you build a new site using Sitebuilder Plus and one of the new templates - you won't be able to use Sitebuilder Desktop to edit the site

  • Sitebuilder Plus is browser based. We recommend using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome for the best experience.

If you decide you no longer need access to one of the editors - Sitebuilder Plus or Desktop - please let us know and we'll make the adjustment to your account.

I hope that helps! Good luck!

Angela

My goodness! after everything I've read here it doesn't sound like a very good idea to even begin to start a new site. I'm having trouble getting around the Plus version & things don't look very promising. I started a new site but only have 1 page (home) done with a few minor glitches....I'd better stop & really think about this. Fixing things that aren't broken seem to be the norm these days. After 2 years with Intuit I sure miss the ease of the old system.........

Me, too....I'm afraid to even try to edit with this new program as I am 72 and these kinds of changes make it very difficult for us old foggies, hopefully they will get their act together and make a tutorial that will teach us all how to handle the changes.....I don't know how painful it will be trying to learn it, but I will try.
However, this may not be the right time to try to create your new site until
they have all the kinks fixed....unless you are already a professional site builder
or can get one to help you!

Whew...was THAT cold. Since when does a company STOP LISTENING to its PAYING CUSTOMERS? I guess when Angela SAYS it does. OUCH...listening evidentlty HS is NOT, nor would we see that kind of a response from a rep of a company that USED TO BE SOOOO good. I had GREAT hopes for HS after Endurance bought it. I rep them and their other sites like HostGator and THEY are good. But I see NOTHING being done to address the MOST serious issues...that should have been JOB 1. Get something done about tech support/customer service. AND FOR GODS SAKE, DO something FINALLY about the SLOWNESS of EVERYTHING in HS. (That has ALWAYS been the case, but Intuit did NOTHING to speed things up and Endurance doesn't seem to be either. THIS BY FAR is the SLOWEST website I deal with and I deal with THOUSANDS. I am new to SBPlus. I avoided it like the plague, but now with a new computer AND..urgh Windows 8...HS PUSHED me (like others) into the online SB. It is awkward, and for as long as it has been out here is still plagued with problems. THAT should NOT B for the time it has been life. WHAT GIVES HERE? How CAN a company that at least CLAIMS to CARE, and be staffed by competent capable people, take THIS LONG to do what is needed. No sense. Having said that, Madame and the rest, I say all that IN THE SPIRIT OF CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. Any company with ANY smarts should be open to that. if not, that says more than ANY of us customers out here EVER could.

But, I marvel that that header at the top could have EVER passed muster with ANY company that CARES or even gives a rats tooshie about its customers. WE SHALL SEE, won't we.

WOW...calling people trolls? How professional or caring or constructive is THAT?

Amazing. I've been out here a long time. Run companies. Owned companies (I do now), been a management consultant to some of the biggest companies on the planet. Sorry, this is NOT how you make friends and positively influence people. I've created customer service departments, WRITTEN customer service manuals. THIS is NOT it. and if ANYONE working for me EVER had posted something like I saw at the top here? FIRED...NY MINUTE FIRED. NEVER would I have allowed something like that to go out over MY company's name. & evidently this is A-OK with Endurance. So be it. Sad. Homestead USED TO BE SUCH A GOOD company. This is SOOO sad.

and if this bastion of snippy wants to call ME a troll so be it. I shall consider the source.

By the way, I FINALLY found someone after several years today (Sat 03/16) who is genuinely like HS used to be. Very competent, PATIENT, thoughtful, COMPETENT and although it took 2 1/2 hours to resolve the problem HE STUCK WITH IT, as opposed to a lot of these SO-CALLED experts HS employs now. Anthony in Redwood City Ca.

He is what ALL HS cust svc & Tech Support people SHOULD be and SADLY ARE NOT.

But GET THIS, he was working BY HIMSELF. Yeh.HS left him to work BY HIMSELF doing chat. He at one point was working with me and 7 others simultaneously. Kinda shows ONE MORE TIME,...where THIS company is at and what they have deteriorated into.

Again, SAD.

with ALL your businesses and thousands of website you work with how do you find the time to write such negative comments? If you can't stand Homestead, Intuit, Endurance then go some place else. What it SAD is that there are people like yourself that have nothing better to do than write nasty messages. I don't blame the company for their post. It's gotten out of hand and it's beyond ridiculous.

These comments are directed to authorbear6774.

Sounds like you are an old guy like me. I came from a corporate world as well. Your three negative capitalized comments to the young lady Angela as a rebuttal to her forum post and other comments about what is happening at Homestead are neither helpful nor productive.

I went back to the top of this thread to re-read what the youg lady said that set you off. Admittedly, she could have reacted in a more subtle manner but sometimes the direct approach is the only thing that some people understand. She is right. We all need to be mindful of why this forum exists and the rules and regulations governing its use. How do they know whether some of these comments aren't meant to damage Hometead or worse, originate from a competitor, of which they have several.

I think it is a testament to Homesteads' effort to remain as transparent as possible that they haven't removed some of these negative based threads and comments. They have to be losing business if someone new stumbles across this forum and makes a business decision based on what they are reading.

Not that you asked but here are a few of my thoughts about what is really happening at Homestead and its new parent, Endurance International.

1. Intuit abandonded Homestead for profit reasons. No other reason. The income stream was there but to much hassel from customers and not enough profit. Not to forget, Intuit has been a minnority shareholder in Homestead since 1998 when they staked the original owner. I forget his name. Intuit only became majority shareholder in 2007.

2. The new company Endurance International bought todays Homestead at a bargain basement price. Their business is technology. They must have a game plan of some sort. Who buys a business to cast off customers and their associated revenue. I say again, there has to be a business plan and timeline. We are just not privy to it.

3. Endurance is in a quandry. Make no mistake about that. They don't know what to do. Period. Don't you think they are asking themselves the same questions you see repeatedly asked on this forum i.e. ?

a) why do we have two Sitebuilder Programs? It has become pretty obvious that after a newbie signs up and becomes proficient, they begin to realize there is another Sitebuilder program out there that is superior to the on line version. Then a new round of questions begin from whomever is the newest newbie. You see it repeatedly by reading thru the threads. (and off topic, it is also obvious when some of these folks just don't what the program can or can not do, or conversely, how something should be be done when it is possible to do it. It is also surprising that more of the old time Hometead users don't answer their questions, myself included)

back to the questions Endurance International must be asking itself . . . .

b) if Sitebuilder works and it got Homestead to where it is, why did Intuit spend the money to develop an on line version and abandon the desktop version? (answer imo) business storefront sites became the new focus . . . remember the email messages we used to get from Intuit extolling the values of Intuit storefronts? I've heard MAC computers is the reason, but Intuit could have made the online version just for macs and forgone all this other headache.

c) and the answer we all need from Endurance but they don't know how to answer . . . what; if anything, do we disclose to the users and if we do, when do we notify the customers of our intentions regarding continuation of or upgrades to the two programs, drop down menus, imager updates, tables, master page, text boxes that can be anchored at the top, left and right side, etc.

Closing thoughts. I too have been with Homestead since before Intuit became majority stockholder. It was different in those days BUT you gotta' give the Homestead of today credit...they are trying! No meaningful updates aywhere but neither have they closed any of us down. Well at least not yet :) These moderators are probably just as much in the dark as we are about the future. Probably with good reason. One ill timed misstatement and Endurance or Homestead share price plummets.

That my friend is the bottom line for any decision Endurance will make. Share Price! Bottom line! Believe it! and what about Homestead making its own decisions? well not knowing the structure of or limits of the Homestead officers authority, you must assume all decisions and approvals are emanating from Endurance. Like any business considerig a major expenditure, the only changes made are based on cost justified memorandums (CJM). Not to forget the bean counters, within the cost justification memo, you must answer the question: is this expenditure a Capital Expenditure (which increase asset/share value) or is it a Cost Expenditure (which decrease asset value). and btw, since I'm on a roll here, don't you know it takes 4 sign offs to get one of those CJM puppies cleared at Endurace/Homestead? Especailly in an environment like Endurance and Homestead with all the new interactions.

Yes sir Mr. authorbear6774, Endurance is in a quandry as to what to do, make no mistake about it !!! Just go to their website...no updated news releases about Homestead. None at all. Nothing official.

I for one am willing to stay the course because I believe they will do the right thing for all of us. Sometimes my friend it is just a corporate process (as you seem to be aware of) to get to the end result. For sure, no amount of your bashing Homestead, their parent company Endurance or in particular, the comments of the moderator Angela is going to help the situation.

JMO, no facts to back up anything I said. Okay, ball is your court . . .

Emery - and Angela - it's never right for someone to refer to their clients as trolls.

For Angela to see that as acceptable quite likely marks her as a member of a particular generation. I think it's dreadful comment to make, but then people would use words like n-----, which we for the most part consider unacceptable now.

This SB+ has been a frustrating experience. and it isn't simply a matter of getting use to it. Sorry, I don't who said that but it isn't like that. SB+ is not working. there are glitches in the program, making editing difficult or sometimes impossible.

I have explained some problems I am having in a different section, under Confirm Navigation, and under Editing. I hope they fix them soon.

People rant, but so what. The ones who are the Homestead employees should also try to be a little more understanding. I guess we should all try. But it is so annoying to be going through this.

Ur right...and no it is NOT a generational thing. It is a PERSON thing,. She obviously sees this as acceptable, but no one I know, young old or inbetween, does. Period. and SHOULD not. FTR, I am back to Sitebuilder desktop and HAPPY. It is FINALLY working even with WINDOWS 8, and Good bye and good riddance to SB+. If you can, try the new version of Desktop. Course HS has just changed so you can't mix the two again. (Fix one thing and break another seems to be the HS mantra any more. I would try to ask for Anthony in Redwood City. get on chat on the weekends. He is marvelous. The rest? For the most part, not so much. Same arrogant BS as someone else I could name and won't.

BTW, is anyone ELSE NOT AMUSED by the CONSTANT need to re-log in? You would think that accomplished something. Nope. Well, I guess that trying to offer constructive criticism just brings out the worst in some people. I have been a HUGE supporter of HS for a number of years. i was there almost from the beginning. A lot of the problem is that after Intuit got complete control, HS lost it's ORIGINAL MISSION. Justin set it up to be a RESOURCE for people who knew little or nothing about how to set up a website but wanted one. HS back in those days DID just that and better than ANYONE else. Period. They had a good product. GREAT people. NOTORIOUS for therir patience, kindness, COMPETENCE and capability. THAT for the most part ALL WENT AWAY under Intuit stewardship. NOW, the people at Endurance and HS say they are trying to go back to that earlier HS. I have done this several times and I am the FIRST to say it AIN'T EASY merging companies. BUT, I have also done it (and INSISTED on) in a way that did NOT disrupt the customers. CAUSE THEY are JOB 1 as Ford used to say. I take NO back seat to being a loyal and STILL HERE customer...long after a lot of people would have been LONG GONE. It was the ATTITUDE as much as anything that i found offensive. I'm sorry. This BS of 'if you don't like it here go somewhere else...MERELY when someone is TRYING to assist with the changes but NOT willing to accept RUDE and HOSTILE behavior from staff. That is bogus.

I would FIRE anyone who talked to MY customers like that.Period.it is NOT helpful no matter what ANYONE says. & maybe before some start shooting off their mouths and making assumptions about me that they have NO knowledge or right to make...guess again. I WOULD THINK, at the end of the day, that we ALL want the same thing. TO DEAL WITH A GOOD COMPANY, WITH A GOOD PRODUCT,THAT WORKS AND GIVES US OUR MONEY'S WORTH. PERIOD.

YES? NO? Then fine. then realize that MOST of the long-term people are NOT geeks, NOR big-shot muckymuch corporate people. They are Aunt Gertrude and Uncle Fred and Joe. They don't much care nor will they understand the behind the scenes crap NOR SHOULD THEY HAVE TO. That is part of my point. SB+ fine.If you like it go for it. I do not. If I like Desktop and I prefer it to be sure, I should be able to have that. (I now do again and it works just fine. Better than ever, thank God).

But the ONE THING I go BALLISTIC over is ANYONE trying to censure or ridiculing customers, PAYING customers, who have a RIGHT to speak their peace WITHOUT being clobbered or made to feel like ANYONE thinks of them as trolls.

WE have ENOUGH insensitivity out here. SHE MAY NOT AGREE, BUT WE have a RIGHT to speak our minds AS LONG AS there is NO vulgarity, NO personal attacks such as I have just witnessed. As long as people are just expressing their opinions, taht should be allowed.

Oh, and btw. I have pushed a LOT of business HS way,and THEY KNOW IT So, I have been as I said an ardent supporter. AND at the end of the day, all I want is what I am paying for. Is THAT too much to ask? For some, perhaps.

Sad.

I am NOT a nasty person and anyone who took what I have said that way is maybe LOOKING through nasty eyes.

There's also the following definition of troll. See
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define...

The most essential part of trolling is convincing your victim that either a) truly believe in what you are saying, no matter how outrageous, or b) give your victim malicious instructions, under the guise of help.
Trolling requires decieving; any trolling that doesn't involve decieving someone isn't trolling at all; it's just stupid. As such, your victim must not know that you are trolling; if he does, you are an unsuccesful troll.

Signs that your trolling is succesful:
*Your victim screaming in all-caps at you.
*Personal attacks (Calling you a retard, idiot, etc).
*Being an Internet Tough Guy.
*Making a crude remark, before quickly logging off before you can retort.

Signs that your trolling is unsuccesful:
*Your victim identifying you as a troll.
*Identifying yourself as a troll.
*Your efforts being ignored.
*Being counter-trolled (See below)

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

However, there is still the original meaning of troll, which existed a long time before the slang internet versions. So there is a negative connotation there also, perhaps more familiar to earlier generations when mythology was more popular than the internet. I don't know who made up the definition above - someone who couldn't spell, but anyway, there it is. And it isn't a word that I think one should use generally, to describe Homestead commenters, any more than we would to describe supportability specialists, even if they do fit the bill. I have had a fair amount of misinformation, which contributed to me having a SS remove my well-working SB and replacing it with SB+, and losing a lot of data. And even if s/he fits the definition of troll, what are we supposed to do about it?

Dear Fellow Builders....After some very frustrating experiences with trying to move and resize elements, I found that my life got much easier when I do the math, and manipulate size and position by typing in the right numbers in the image settings. Once I have it where I want it size and position-wise...I lock that puppy. So far it has cleared the air around my computer considerably...it's a lot less blue.

Loving aloha,

Well, I don't have time to read each and every word on this forum so I'll just try to be simple and ask anyone for a simple answer. I have not published my site yet, which I set up though one of the Google conferences for a free site for the first year. I have a domain through goDaddy which my administrator does not wish to transfer as a "point to" since he believe it will remove all my email history. Before I take the last step, I need feedback on the best way to use this SB system. Should I simply have them control it through another domain similar to what I currently am using?
I own a dozen domains in various methods of the same company name. I am not a tech person, at all, but do wish to publish the site and not have to go through the frustrations written by all the previous persons. I am not using ad-ons, just a simple, 3 page site that is completed but not published and ready to role.

I wish there were simple answers. I've been working with SB for many years, and was always happy with it. I'm still doing my best to hang in there while they get their new ducks to behave.

If you are going to use SB, you need to know what you are doing. Once you build a site on SB, you can't have anyone else host it, if you are going to continue to maintain and access your site. Only Homestead controls sites built on their site builder software. ( as far as I know, and i do NOT know everything, but that's my understanding).

Seems to me that if you have a simple site, and don't care about dropdowns, etc., and want to keep it happy on Sitebuilder, you should have no problems.

And yes, if you are on GoDaddy and have been receiving emails there, you will lose them, and need to have a new mailbox on Homestead.

Remember that you can't make any switches for 60 days, so if you have a domain name with Homestead, it has to be here for at least that much time.

There's always more to consider, but these seem to be the major questions you are asking.....hope it helps.

Loving aloha,

Julia

Reading this thread, it's apparent to me I need to look for another provider. There are many shopping cart sites out there. Any suggestions on who to review?

I am so discouraged. I was with HS for several years and closed it due to personal reasons. I am now back and geeeee what in the world has happened. I have worked endless hours trying to set up a simple site. I tried for 3 hrs yesterday to get help without sucess. Today I went to my site and all the pages are on top of each other and messed up. Again I can't get help. I think the best thing for me to do is cancel. I am surpose to be on 2 week FREE trial. But I see where they have already taken money out of my credit card. If anyone can tell me how to get a LIVE person to talk to please let me know.

Good morning:
I to have been with HS for over 4 years now. I was also shocked to see how much change had been made to something that was already working for us.

I have to say however that the new program is easier to get around once you spend enough time getting to know it. Yes there are a few bugs that irritate me like not being able to delete images from my list, but with one phone call I was walked through getting un-used images deleted. Of course I'll have to call back because I forgot to write down how I did it..my bad!

As for not getting to speak with anyone, I've always been able to contact someone within a few minutes or within an hour.

All the complaining about something never gets things done, just more frustration on both sides. I wish you all the luck with the new site & your venture.

Have a Fabulous & Blessed Day!

I have been working with computers since 1978 and I help friends fix their computer problems over the internet for free. I am pretty dang good. I have struggled with Homestead site builder for 2 weeks and I have never seen such shabby software in 30+ years. I just lost my index. I have tried several times to call and it is of no use. I have received assistance by chat. My pages are in the builder byt when I go to the site, theyre gone. What do you do? This crap is published and found when searched for and my site looks like an idiot did it
