Hmail Account Security is critical for everyone that uses email. When an email account is hacked and used to send spam - it can impact every customer that uses Hmail. When our servers are blocked for sending spam - customers can't send critical emails.

Passwords must be 8-14 characters in length with at least 1 upper-case and 1 lower-case letter. No spaces or symbols other than !@#$%^&*(){}[] are allowed.

Here's how to make sure you're not part of the problem!

Increase the strength of your password.

Include at least one capital letter. Ex. homesteaD.

Include a character. Ex. homesteaD!. Only the following characters are allowed: !@#$%^&*(){}[]

Include a number. Ex. 55homesteaD!

Increase the length of your password. Include at least 8 characters in your password to increase security.

Don't use obvious words. Here's a list of the top 25 most commonly used passwords, with a little humor attached.

Don't use the same password from other personal accounts. Using the same password for every log in you have can make you vulnerable if someone was to figure out your code. Feel free to keep it similar, but change it enough so if you were to get hacked, you can limit the damage.

Update your password every 6 months Although updating your password every 6 months can be a frustrating task, it is a sure way to guarantee some level of safety for all of your accounts. One way to remember - change your passwords when you change your clocks!

Here is a password generating tool you can use for free. There are many out there, so you can search for others as well.

By utilizing the above tips, you have the greatest chance at avoiding your email from becoming vulnerable to a hack.

Thanks,

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Email Password Problems.

Yesterday i received the following error message when trying to login to my email account: LGI-0006 Categories=USER_INPUT Message='Invalid credentials.' exceptionID=1469162447-9379433. I changed the password and it worked fine all day. This morning when I tried to login with the new password I received the same message. I tried the old password too but that also did not work. Can anyone help me resolve this recurring problem. Thank you!

Good morning Andrew2399,

I would first suggest running a full system security scan with updated security software.  Your password is being changed by the system as a result of an excess of 10,000 messages being sent in under an hour.  If this isn't something that you are doing, then someone likely has your password and/or some key logging virus on your computer. Use this topic to create a new password after you run the scan.

If you are sending this much email, then you will need to go to an email marketing company, like emailbrain.com to send out this much mail.

Thanks

I sent about 200 emails to out customers last night. Do you think that caused a problem? I changed the password this morning but still could not log in. I will work on the virus issue. I have Bitdefender antivirusbut it does not seem to be helping. Is there something better?

No, it seems more like someone has your information.  I see very specifically that your account send in excess of 10,000 messages in under an hour on 2 different occasions.

Change your password to something completely new.  Make sure to make it more difficult.  The requirements are in this topic,

After running anti-malware programs yesterday I reset the password with a very strong password. I didn't even type the password in I copied and pasted it. It ran fine the rest of the day. Then this morning the password would not work again. I changed it again and it began working. Any Ideas on how to stop this recurring problem? Thanks!

Hi Andrew2399,

What security software are you running?  I show that the email service@petassistpetsitting.com had the password changed at 4:11am for sending in excess of 10,000 messages in under an hour.

I can only think that the software you ran is missing something that is installed on your computer.

I run Bitdefender, Spybot S& D, ADW Cleaner, Junkware Removal Tool, MALWAREBYTES ANTI-MALWARE and Hitman Pro. It's funny I have four email accounts but it is only attacking this one (it is my primary account).

Ok.  That should do it.  I am going to see if the mail administrators are able to shed any light onto what might be happening.

I just want to confirm that you are using never before used passwords and you are not sending out anywhere in the neighborhood of the 10,000 messages that the logs show?

Thanks

I started using a password generator yesterday to create highly complex passwords thinking that would solve the problem...but they hacked that also. I was asleep at 4:11 this morning. We usually send out 5-12 emails per day. The most would be 200... but very rarely

Ok.  I have already submitted an escalation to the mail administrators.  I can't give you an ETA, but will update this topic when I hear back from them.

This happens to me all the time. I have my access to webmail easily one day and the the next I have a message INVALID CREDENTIAL. This is costing me a lot of pain as my email over outlook also cant receive mails nor I can check my webmail from homestead. Is there anything wrong with your server ? Need to resolve this as it's happening too often this past month and this month

I have not been seeing anything like this. Do you reset the password, or does it just start working again?
