Desktop builder was designed back in 1997 when we had windows 95 and I cannot think of any other computer programme, produced back then, that still works with todays Operating Systems. Personally I think it praiseworthy that Homestead have kept it compatible with the changing  systems. As for desktop builder working with windows 10... Have a look at the top of this forum and you will see a yellow box about that very topic. Have a read through all the comments and you should then be able to download sitebuilder and resolve any issues you may have.

wish you best of luck.. some have had problems but they all seem to have been resolved.  If it doesn't go to plan then pop back in and let the tech guys know exactly what went wrong and any error messages you get.

We can almost always get it working, but there are some steps. If you still have an issue, let us know exactly what is happening.

I have tried everything suggested and when I log in I am still getting the error saying I cannot use this version of sitebulider.

I am willing to wait for the new build for Windows 10 to be released but it looks like they are never going to release it.

Carla, I am sure it can be sorted and this is the first time, in my experience, that the windows 10/Desktop link hasn't provided a positive outcome. One of the techs will be in here Monday morning, but in the meantime, can I ask why using the desktop version is vital.? If you wish to create a new website then you would be using the latest cloud based Websitebuilder which is not downloadable and I doubt there IS a W10 version of desktop in the pipeline. I truly hope things get sorted out properly for you...

You can do much more with the desktop version. One of the very reasons I signed up for Homestead.

Hmm. I built websites with the desktop version from 1999 until 2013 and found it an excellent builder, but the benefit to me was being able to edit off line, as internet access here in the UK was via a phone line and expensive. So i could make updates etc and then dial in, upload and hang up. However, as we now have permanent online access I switched to Sitebuilder plus and , in my opinion, it was an upgrade to desktop and a superb programme. Still not a convert to the new websitebuilder yet as I can do much more with sitebuilder plus. Anyway, thank you for the reply and once again I am sure Drew or Todd will be able to help you get desktop downloaded and I wish you all the best.

What happens when you launch Sitebuilder? Is there any type of errors that are produced? Have you already tried to install the J# fix?

Carla, Todd is dealing, but have you built any website with the online version sitebuilder plus? or have you always used the desktop version.

I have only used the online sitebuilder this time because the desktop version will not work. I used Homestead a few years ago to build 2 websites and used the desktop builder and I loved it. It seemed a lot easier to use and that is why I want to use it again. Shouldn't Homestead create a working version for Windows 10?

Hi Carla,

That error happens when there is a template on the account that is not compatible with the desktop builder. The only way to gain access to the desktop builder is to remove that template.

I am using Peaceful Companions. It is telling me that if I change I change the template it will delete my site and all the work I have done. I must have used that template and then deleted all the elements and made my own. Guess I am stuck with it.
