Spam is a massive problem to the Internet. In 2015 the total number of email sent/received exceeded 200 billion per day. Fortunately newer spam filters, like ours seem to be making something of an impact, along with mail administrators tightening down systems everywhere. Recently it looks like the percentage of daily email that is spam has been reduced to just around 50%. This is a 12 year low. You can read more about our spam filter here.

If you are already receiving spam at your email address, then you are likely going to be on their lists forever. Our spam filter works extremely well for most people. However, if some spam is getting through, then extra measures may need to be taken. We suggest that you use an email client that allows you to create filters to help catch these messages. Filters will be coming to Homestead mail fairly soon. If you use an installable email client, like Outlook, then you can also make use of one of the many security softwares available to add another line of defense to your inbox.

If you are not on spam lists already, then you can still protect yourself. Be extremely careful of who you give your email address to. We advise that you have a throw away email address for signing up for newsletters, leaving business cards in bowls at a commercial establishment, etc. If that address begins to get spam, you can update the senders you like with a new address and delete the old.
