Google Analytics is a web analytic program offered by Google. It allows you to see where visitors come from, what they do when they reach your site, and how long they are there for. It also allows you to track information like what browser or device type is most often used to view your pages.

With this information, you can make changes and corrections to your site to maximize page views. We highly recommend you use a service like Google Analytics alongside your Homestead site to get the most out of your hosting. To start using Google Analytics, you'll need to connect the account to your website. We have made this as easy as possible.

  • Create a Google Analytics account, if you haven't already. Click the following link, click Start For Free, and choose Sign Up:

    https://www.google.com/analytics

  • Fill out the Account Name, Website Name, Website URL, http or https, etc.
Once you are done, click Get Tracking ID at the bottom.

  • On the next page, you will see a Tracking ID. It will look like this. (I've crossed mine out to discourage people from trying to use it. You will get a different one)
    Copy the whole ID (UA-XXXXXXXX-Y)

  • Log into your Website Builder. Click Manage on the left, then click Google Analytics. Paste the Tracking ID you copied into this field and click Add Analytics

Give it up to 24 hours to update. Then you can start tracking!

Do I have to do this for every page on my web site or just the main domain? Does it track individual pages or does each web page need its own ID? Thanks

Hello Jennifer,

Adding that Tracking ID is for the whole website. Google Analytics will view and track each individual page once that ID is applied to the site.

I am guessing that each website I have will need its own Tracking ID. Am I correct?
Thank you.

Hello Martha,

That is correct, each domain will generate its own tracking ID.

Hello,

This sounds like that may be the google tag manager. The fastest way to find the UA code for each property, is to click “All Accounts” at the top of the screen to activate the dropdown menu, then locate the account and in the middle column and you will see the UA number below the Property.
