With the new site builder search engines are not capturing the text on the website, therefore are not capturing the content for search engine optimization. People are not able to find our site with the new site builder. This is cause by the developer putting the Java or flash first in the coding, and this covers up the text placed within the site. Could the Homestead developer look at this and get this corrected? We have not had any organic inquiries, through our site, since launch on the new builder. This is affecting our business. If not fixed, we will have to look elsewhere...

I attempted to paste an image in here of your site report that I ran in evolved websites showing the view as Googlebot. Apparently it was tooooo big and got spit out.
So you can give it a go by going to http://www.evolvedwebsites.com.au/googlebot/
or if you have a verified account with Google you can do a Fetch as Googlebot.

That is a problem. I have not seen traffic directed to my site either. I thought the site tracker had issues not reporting correctly, but this could be the problem, or both

Are either of you using Google Analytics? I've noticed that my site stats show 0 visitors, yet I know there have been quite a few. So wondering if the Stat thing is just not working yet.

Mine started showing visitors the first few days I uploaded the website, but then nothing for the last month or so. Something is wrong.

I agree that things do appear off ... Hopefully Drew will chime in and give us some insight.

Yeah, my analytics are not working either. If the developer puts the java or flash first in the coding, then it covers the content so the search engines can't properly read the content of the site. If this can become fixed the it should be resolved. Before using this new builder our site would take up the first 3-4 pages of google. Now we only appear once but it's only because of our name in the title of the page. The bots are not able to read the content of our pages, therefore we are not getting the organic searches when people google the type of service we offer. Now when people search our keywords we don't even appear.

We have website and use SEO to help people find our sites, so we can make money to pay Homestead to host our sites. But if this process is broken with Homestead, then we are not getting the customers we need. So I either have to switch back to the old builder or find a new company to build my site with. Homestead should hopefully be able to fix this...

That explains why all my images do not now appear in google image search. Don't forget I am using the exact same web address for my new site.

This is terrible really. What is the point in having a brand spanking new sitebuilder when it cannot do a basic thing.... I have added meta tags and descriptions to every page but nothing is being picked up by googlebots.....Worried

John do you have a Google account so you can run the Fetch as Googlebot option and see exactly what Google is seeing?

I haven’t posted anything for the past month but I have been closely following the forum activity along the way.

I’ve posted about many issues with the new WebBuilder in the past.  I’m slowly plodding along, trying to re-build my 200 or so pages.

ANOTHER issue I noticed is this:  And this might affect the SEO on your sites:

When you go to: PAGES > MANAGE PAGES> and then it bring up the box with “Page Information.”

There are entries for:

“NAME” -

“PAGE URL” -

SITE MENUS:

PAGE SEO:

“TITLE” -

“KEYWORDS” -

“DESCRIPTION” -

“PAGE META TAGS” –

This is what I’ve found out with the WebsiteBuilder that I am using.  (I would suspect that they’re all the same, but who knows!)

The entry that you put in the “NAME” box CANNOT be the same entry you put in the “TITLE” box!

I did  exactly that several times on several pages; then clicked “saved”; and went back and discovered that the “TITLE” entry is not there.

It disappeared.  You “think” you are “saving” everything, but YOU ARE NOT.  It will not accept the “NAME” and the “TITLE” to be the same.  I repeat – the “NAME” and “TITLE” cannot be the same.

What you need to do is to have a slightly different entry in the “TITLE” box that is different from the “NAME” box.

For example, in the “NAME” box, you put in: JOE’S GRADUATION

If you put in JOE’S GRADUATION in the “TITLE” box and then click save and then exit, it will disappear.

Go back and open up the settings again.  You will find that IT IS NOT THERE.

In the “TITLE” box, you need to add a little something.  Say, JOE’S GRADUATION PARTY, or use quotation marks and write, “JOE’S GRADUATION.”

THEN and ONLY THEN will it save everything.  I use the quotation method.  Whatever name I have in the “NAME” box, I keep it the same in the “TITLE” box EXCEPT I put in the quotation marks, click save, and then everything is really saved!

Go back.  Check it out and see.  If the “NAME” and “TITLE” are the same and you clicked “save,” when you return to re-check it, the “TITLE” box is empty.

I’m no SEO guru by no means, but I would suspect that if you have an empty title box, that might affect things.

I brought all of this up on a phone chat a month or so ago and again today as well.

The NAME  box is the name you give the page - this shows up on your page menu. The TITLE should be a short snippet that is an accurate description of the page's content. Generally Google will show the first 55-60 characters on the search results. So you want the TITLE to be different from the page NAME in order to provide a bit more info and make it more appealing to searchers.

I have been following this feed and before I redirect to my new site, I wonder anyone can tell me if this issue is resolved?

Unfortunately we haven't had any feedback from Homestead on this Clairice. It's definitely a question that needs answered though.

Bit drastic but I've added an html site map to both these home pages. That should help Google crawl and fetch....http://www.calvertonvillage.com/ and http://tommycooper.homesteadcloud.com/

That is drastic! Do you have to leave it there indefinitely? Your sites look very nice, but that seems to detract from them.

John I would definitely not go that route. Just make a page called Site Map and put all that information on it and add the Site Map link to your navigation.

:) Not exactly what I meant since that is a file rather than a page and can confuse your visitors as they will have to either open it or save it. If you create a new page and add the page names with links to those pages and then put Site Map in your navigation links it will still feed the pages to the Search Engines and be useful to visitors as well.

Or leave the link like you have it, but link it to an actual page with the pages listed.

Ok. This topic seems to jump around as far as individual issues.

I will have to take some time to figure out all the things here. There seem to be several different points. First, to SentrySix9541, what content is not being seen by search engines? The scripts that Google mentions do not prevent search engines from reading and are required for parts of your site to work. What are you looking at to provide this information so we can see what they are saying and attempt to address it.

Also, we are aware that the built in statistics are not fully working yet, and are working to finish it. You are welcome to add Google Analytics through the Manage button on the left side of the builder.

I forgot to add that the sitemap.xml is created automatically when publishing.

The sites we look at seem to get indexed just fine.
