Unauthorized ads and hyperlinks have appeared on my website. Why?

If you suddenly see ads and links appearing on your website pages when you didn't place them there, the reason is that you have installed an add on to your browser that is causing this.  Most of the offenders I have seen have been toolbars.  How do they get installed?  Usually you are installing another program that you need or want, and don't notice in all the "Next" buttons you have to click, that you are actually authorizing other programs to be installed..

You can fix this on your computer by finding and disabling the offending add on.  This is pretty much a trial and error process, but I recommend you disable toolbars first.  The add on management is different in each browser, so if you are not sure where the settings are, use your browser's help center.

I've been noticing that when I go to my website and when my cursor goes above an image, an advertisement comes up, sometimes advertising for a related product. I don't know how to get rid of this.

I hate that. It might take a bit to figure out what you got installed, but here is the solution.

Amazon.com ads popping up on my website..

There are ads for Amazon.com popping up on my website all of a sudden. How do I remove them? I pay for my website, and do not want any other company advertising on my website unless they are planning to pay me a monthly fee to advertise on the site that I own and pay for. So, can someone please tell me how to remove these ads, and keep them from popping up?

Index Pages Hacked With Sales Ads.

All index pages of my websites now have keywords set as hyperlinks to someone else's site. Example, Web.com linked the word "website" to their site. The word "checkout" links to coupons.com. How do I get rid of these hyperlinks and prevent it from happening again? This is B.S.

Thank you Drew. I took your advice and started digging around in my settings page. Sure enough, after selecting the "extensions" link I found AdwareYum and Google Docs both enabled. I disabled both. I also went into advanced sync settings and entered my own password phrase. Now no one can read any encrypted data on my computer. After doing this, all spam ads and links appear to have vanished from my website.  Thank you again very much.

You're very welcome.  I will assume that it was Adwareyum.  I have never seen Google do this.  Yahoo has though, so you have to watch out.

Thanks

Fire fox  Mozilla are the worst for adware compare  shopping links. aggressive ad work.
I had the same on my site. had to use a anti-malware to clean it out.

Don't take this as a ad. though this anti-malware is the best, spyware,  REGHUNTER & SPYHUNTER    Enigma software group USA  LLC

These are almost always caused by browser plugins that you accidentally install yourself. they usually piggy-back on to your ccomputer when you are downloading some other piece of software. You can usually just look at your browser addons and plugins and just disable and uninstall the problem  addons.  This page has more info:  How can I remove 3rd party browser plug-ins, add-ons, and extensions from my web browser?

Random hyperlinks appearing in text.

When I go to my web-site (http://theoldbloke.homestead.com) immediately after the page loads, random words become under-lined in blue and become links to ads. These ads seem to come from www.frngd.com. I have cleared history and cookies in my browser, but it still happens. However it only happens on my Homestead site. Can youy help with this? It is extremely annoying having these random words become hyperlinks to ads!

Hello elwyn7000,

You will find the answer above.  You just need to disable the offending browser plug in.

Thank you. I found it did happen on anbother site, so it wasn't just on the Homestead site, as I first thought. I installed an up-dated ad-/ malware program, ran a scan and it got rid of the problem. Thanks for the help.

Ads on Blog?.

I'm trying to incorporate the Homestead blog into my website.  I'm on the Business plan which includes a blog.  However whenever I publish the blog content on the webpage, it includes a TON of adds and junk all around it.  Some of it is really inappropriate too.  Can I get rid of that?  If not I'm going to have to pay for a third party blog/feed reader service that I know won't have ads!

Hi amr89byu8945,

Most likely you have some malware installed in your browser.  The only time Homestead ads to your site, is the footer on your site, and that is easily removed.

Thanks

Hi Candice8727,

We don't place ads on your site. You have most likely installed some malware as a plugin in your browser. You can try to disable the offender in yuor browser add on manager. It is usually a 3rd party tollbar, like Yahoo toolbar.

Why is there suddenly a homestead daily deals ad sitting over all the banners on my webpages? I pay for this service and will very quickly move on if this cannot be removed! It looks cheap and unprofessional and I do not want it on my pages.

Hi John9568,

You have most likely installed or been infected with some Malware. Homestead doesn't place banners on any accounts.

That is strange, but we don't really have daily deals either, so I am not sure what is up with that. In any case, most people won't see it at all unless they have something installed. Once you find the offending plug in, you won't either. Normally it's a 3rd party toolbar.
