Sitebuilder won't start up. Nothing happens when I click on it. Downloaded Sitebuilder from Homestead site and clicked on it to install and nothing happens. I'm pretty sure my computer is virus free. Anybody got any ideas?

Hello,  I am right that you just updated to Windows 8?  If so, uninstall Sitebuilder.  When you go back to install it, you will probably see in Step 1 that it is identifying Windows 8 as Windows XP or earlier.  This is installing the wrong version.  In the troubleshooting section you should see an option that says If you are using Windows Vista or 7, click here.  Click here is a link, install from there.

You also have the option to try Sitebuilder Plus, the new online version.

Thanks

Drew

Hi Denny0161, Are you still stuck? Did you want to try the reinstall as Drew mentioned above or have us to switch your account to SiteBuilder Plus?

Hi Mike / Thanks for your reply. I'm running windows xp, and up to now I've had zero trouble. Yes I did download sitebuilder a few days ago to try and reinstall it, but when I click on the installer, the same thing happens that when I click on the sitebuilder icon shortcut link on my desktop-nuthin!! I don't think I have a virus. All my other programs seems to start up fine. Thanks in advance for your help. Denny

You may have to do a "clean install", or switch to SB+. With a clean install, you'll need to uninstall the existing version, plus remove any program, or data files on your computer manually. If you need help with this contact our Live Chat by clicking the help button at the top of your screen, and just tell them you need help with a "clean install".

The best advice I can give is to just upgrade to SiteBuilder Plus. It seems like the demand is for cloud services so It's unlikely our developers will add any new upgrades or features to the desktop version. If you want to try SB+, just reply here and I can switch it for you.

Mike is there an additional cost for switching to plus?

No. it's a free upgrade and only takes a few seconds to convert.

Cool. First thing I should do is uninstall current version that was working all these years up to now, correct?

Yes, and on the C;Drive remove/delete any "Homestead/SiteBuilder" folders that appear in the Program Files folder. (or if you have a folder named Program Data) remove Homestead files from there too.

If you plan on switching to the Plus version, you don't need to worry about deleting those files though.

Alright I've done that. Looked on the Homestead site for the 'plus download'
....didn't see it anywhere.

There was one change I had to do on my end. If you just log out, then log back in, and click the Websites Manager link on the left side, then you'll see a blue button that says "Edit" and it will launch SB+.

Let me know if you get stuck anywhere.

Sitebuilder plus is an online program? I can't load something into my computer to work offline if I want to? My initial reaction to the 'plus' version is that it looks bare bones....not as comprehensive...and besides, I don't want to work online like that. Can you help? Thanks!

Yes...The Plus version is web based. It looks much simpler but is more advanced and has newer features. If you prefer to go back to the old version I can change the account back. You'll need to do the clean install as explained above though. Make sure you have all the old SiteBuilder files off your PC before you try to reinstall it again.

Mike I do appreciate your help, but i'm a little spoiled by the older version. If I install it and it doesn't work, i'll know what to do next, and i guess blame my computer, for it must be a pc issue if the software won't install or boot up. Thank you mike and please do change my acct so I can install it. Then, if it doesn't work, I'll be writing you back to ask for the change again. Appreciate it

Ok..Your account has been switched back. Click the same blue Edit button and it will prompt you with an option to reinstall SiteBuilder.

Mike. Sitebuilder won't run....won't start up. It DID install....So...I guess if you can switch me back that would be nice. By the way, when all this started a few days ago, just to be safe, I installed sitebuilder on my laptop....It's there and it works fine as is. Will the change you make for me to use sitebuilder + on this desktop computer affect my ability to use just the regular sitebuilder program on my laptop? Thanks in advance

SB+ and regular SB have features that are not compatible with eachother. If we convert it to SB+, it will stop the regular SB from running on the other computer.

ok....shucks. I want it to also run on my laptop where it's installed and working. So let's just leave it alone, Mike. There's some issue with my desktop pc that prevents the installed version to start up.....I'll find it eventually and let you know what it was. I do appreciate your help
