Been having the same problem for over a year. I'm using Windows 8.1 and the problem of the Homestead Website program is really , REALLY frustrating !! (I've got Homestead also installed on a laptop running Windows Vista, and don't have the problem.

I kept seeing posts from somebody named 'Drew' so I decided to do some checking to see who he was; he appeared to be the 'Go To' guy with problems about Homestead. I posed my issues to him and he was very helpful (and sympathetic). He advised me that I should totally remove Homestead from my computer with the Windows 8.1 O/S and completely re-install the program. I'd already done that sever times, but the problem still remained even after removing and then re-installation.

Drew advised me that when you use the normal 'Windows Way to delete a program, all components of the program don't totally get removed. Drew provided me with information about how to TOTALLY (and I mean TOTALLY) remove Homestead from my computer, by seeking our 'hidden files' related to Homestead and deleting them, too.

I did all of that yesterday morning and looked forward to working once again with my Homestead Website building program and be free of all the frustration and anger and 'move on' with maintaining my Website. I was EXCITED !!

However, that excitement was short-lived when I updating information when all of a sudden, for no reason at all, Homestead 'CRASHED AGAIN" and all of the time, hard work and changes that I had put into modifying he Webpage of my Website that I was working on, was LOST !!

Back to 'Square One'.

Drew, what's my next step to resolve this issue (that apparently other users of your program are also experiencing) ?

As I've stated to you previously, I've been a Homestead customers since the early 2000's and never had ANY problem until just over a years ago; the program has had the described issue for well over a year.

How can this issued be fixed 'once and for all' ?? I'd like to continue using your program, but what's happening CONTINUALLY is 'taking it's toll' !!

The procedure Richard is describing is

This usually improves the situation.

I am trying to think of something else now. This is a very old program, and relies completely on some discontinued Microsoft components. While we can usually get it working, it is not always so.

The majority of customers have moved to the online program which is the current one.
