What is the difference between site builder lite, site builder and site builder plus? I see nowhere to select site builder plus. I will be starting to build my website soon and trying to sort things out.

I am asking because i don't want to start off with one builder to only have to change over to the plus editor...i would rather only do one download installation. Skimming through the topics and the site i can't find much info on the builders and did gather eventually builder plus will be what HS is changing over to if i understood right...soo given lack of info on the site i am seeking some answers here.

Hi DeAnna9248,

SiteBuilder Plus (SB+) is the newest version of our software. The main difference is that it is web based, meaning you don't have to install any software on your computer. It contains almost all of the same features as the original SiteBuilder , except they removed some of the outdated widgets and some widgets that were really more for personal websites vs. business websites.

SB+ gives you access to a completely new selection of more modern templates which are better formatted for today's wider monitors, new design features, (cropping pictures, rounded corners, shadow effects), and Master templates that help speed and ease design. It contains some new ecommerce and social networking features as well.

The original SiteBuilder, contains a category of Personal widgets (see below), which have been removed from SB+ as they are viewed by most as outdated, unprofessional, or not business appropriate. (there are dozens of free/similar widget available on the web if anyone still wants to add these)

The desktop version comes standard with SB Lite. SB Lite is also web based but can only be used for the most basic edits such as editing text or images. Any of the more advanced editing features are not available in the Lite version. Most of the templates in this SB are very old, and have a narrow format that leaves a lot of blank space when viewed on wider screens. The program is somewhat memory intensive (especially on larger websites) so some users with older, less powerful computers may experience problems. Anytime you download software onto a computer there is always a possibility of installation problems or incompatibility issues with other software on the computer.

Equally, there are sometimes incompatibility issues with certain web browsers when using SB+. Since the market is becoming more and more split between PCs, Macs, and now a variety of mobile devices, the cloud based systems ie SB+ are more than likely the way of the future. If you are trying to decide which option to go with I would strongly encourage you to switch to the newer SB+

  • Old accounts on SB/SB Lite, can be upgraded to SB+, but some of the outdated widgets will not work or have to be removed

  • SB+ templates are not backwards compatible with the SB/SB Lite due the Master templates, and some new eCommerce capabilities.

I am in the process of creating a more comprehensive comparison chart, but don't have it completed yet. I'll post it when done.

I hope this helps.

Mike,

Any update on the "more comprehensive comparison chart" between SB+ and the desktop SB version you're creating?

Thx

Thank you very much for the info...years ago i made a couple sites but it's been awhile. I like to make mine from a blank page and just wanted to make sure i can still do that. Also, how do i get to the build plus editor?

You've been upgraded! To access SB+ just log into your account at www.homestead.com . Once logged in, click the Websites Manager link on the left side and you'll see a blue Edit button which launches SB+.

are you sure i am using the sb+...i sware it looks like sb lite because it appears so basic from what i remember a few years ago with the previous editor..it just looks soo limited and basic..something i would expect with sb lite for those wanting premade templates and only making minor twitches

Yes.. it is the plus version and it's var more advanced than the Lite version. One of our goals was to make it easier to use so the main menu has been clean up a lot. You'll find all of the widgets and tools under the Insert button. Also, the properties editor will automatically display additional functions when you click on elements on your pages. Let us know if you are can't find a particular feature.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
I like Sitebuilder, not Plus or Lite.

I use Sightbuilder for my old sites fine, but now I added a new, separate account and it says I must use Sitebuilder Plus. No, I want to use regular Sitebuilder not Plus or Lite. I tried logging into Sitebuilder with the new account but it says I must use Plus. Why can't I use the more capable Sitebuilder?
I don't want to have to learn a weaker program.
Any ideas?

Hi newbreedmovie0299,

Please read the thread above and let me know if you would like to switch. The process to change your account is very easy, but you will have to delete the site/template that you started. The old version will not support many of the new features in the Plus system ie (master templates, image editing, updated ecommerce etc.)

After you delete the site you've started, we can convert the account, and then you'll be able choose a template from the old gallery or start from scratch.

Thanks!

The downloaded version is old and no longer developed. Also, the account you have signed up for through Google, only allows Sitebuilder Plus.
