  • Can you provide a description of your business?

    • We are a basketball training business that has a mission to help student-athletes between the ages 11 and 18 use basketball as a tool to obtain an education.
  • How did you get started in this business?

    • Around 2010 my nephew asked me, "Hey Unc, can you help me get my handles right!?"  For those that aren't familiar with the basketball term, it means ball handling and dribbling skills.  I told my nephew, "Yea, no problem, we can start tomorrow."  So we start doing ball handling and dribbling drills in his Mom's, my sister's, garage.  After doing it for a few weeks, he started seeing significant improvements.  It was my nephew and I was just doing it for fun to spend time with him, but the thought hit me.  "Hmmm... maybe there are other players that need this type of training..."  Next thing I know, I'm in business and we're still helping student-athletes reach their next level, whatever that next level may be.
  • How do you market your business?

    • Word of mouth, marketing collaborations with complimentary organizations, Groupon, and currently bolstering SEO and social media outlets.

  • How has technology, such as computers and the internet, impacted how you conduct business?

    • Computers and the internet have been the great equalizer for not just my business, but many across the world.  The tools available make the world smaller and allow powerful tools, such as Homestead Websites, to be accessible to businesses within all industries and markets at affordable price points that give businesses of all sizes the ability to compete as strongly as their drive, imagination, and resourcefulness permits.

  • How important is social media to your business?

    • The parents that we must reach aren't really on social media, but it's important that we take advantage of social media to become more visible to the student-athletes that we strive to positively impact.  I'll admit that we've dropped the ball on it, but it's been one of our recent priorities.
