Can you provide a description of your business?

My business is a medical family practice, providing quality affordable healthcare to the general community in a fairly large semi-rural town in South Africa. As a family medicine specialist I provide primary healthcare and secondary level care, including some specialized care such as ultrasonography and obstetric services.

How did you get started in this business?

As a medical doctor I had to go the obvious route of obtaining the appropriate qualifications and registration. However, my journey started out already as a learner at grade 8. My dream was always to serve my community where I was born and grew up. My passion for people and the desire to provide the ordinary man in the street with access to a quality service drove me to become a physician. I am living my dream and is very happy.

How do you market your business?

A business like mine is largely marketed by my clients through word of mouth and referrals. I do however place a large premium on a presence on the world-wide web and social media.

How has technology, such as computers and the internet, impacted how you conduct business?

A successful medical practice cannot function properly without technology. Not only do we use a lot of technology in medical equipment and administration, but I run a semi-paperless operation, making use of an electronic health system, referrals by e-mails and electronic prescriptions and claims submission. Furthermore the internet is a daily resource used in research, study and peer reviews. Medical journals and textbooks are downloaded in e-format. A fast internet connection and secure intra-net is the backbone of my business.

How important is social media to your business?

Social media such as Facebook is a vital part of my practice. Information is shared via my personal and practice pages and clients contact me via Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp and SMS on a daily basis.

You've done a good job with this site. There is loads of great content and information. It is clean and simple to navigate. That is great for design in 2019. Some minor areas where I can see opportunity for improvement.

  1. I can't stress this enough. Page titles and descriptions are so easy to improve and are great for search engines. See if you can improve upon these. This also means renaming "Our Blog" to something more specific to your business.
  2. I am going to suggest that you make sure you have things spelled correctly. I understand that you may use different spellings of some words and they may be correct already, but always double check. Misspelling and grammatical errors can make people leave your site quickly.
  3. On your blog page, the text under the blog post title is much to light colored. Edit that color to more easily read. It is the date posted. You can select the blog feed on the blog page and click on More and then Advanced. Then click on style. At the top click on Post List It...At the bottom change Text 2 to a darker color of your choosing.
  4. Do you plan on maintaining the blog? You should post regularly to a blog. It doesn't have to be daily or even weekly, but a consistent monthly or maybe even quarterly post will be much better. If you don't plan on making regular blog posts, you may want to consider putting those few items as pages. You may want to do that with the Cancellations and no-shows anyway. You can make a policies page and put on your policies in one place. That way you can keep your blog focused entirely on health related topics.

I hope this helps improve the site, and thanks very much for being a spotlight.
