Our organizations current website is accessible via 2 domains, each registered by different registrars (Register.com and ENOM.com). We have now created a new website with Homestead that we want to replace our current site and we would like it accessible via the 2 older domains. We host our own email on an inhouse Exchange server that is also accessible via the 2 older domain names. How should we proceed to have the Homestead website replace the older site yet remain accessible via the older domain names (all without disrupting our email)? Thanks for your assistance.

Hi there,

That is a great question, and I'm glad you asked. In order to point your domains to us, without disrupting your email service, you would need to do a DNS point. That way you are only changing the records that control the website aspect of the domains, and leaving the email records alone. Here are the instructions for doing a DNS point:

Step 1: Contact your current provider or registrar and request ALL of the following records be added to the domain zone file for your domain

Record #1:
Type: A Record
Host = @
Points to
209.157.71.50

Record #2:
Type: A Record
Host = *
Points to
209.157.71.50

Record #3:
Type: CNAME Record
Alias or host = www
Points to
websites.homestead.com

Record #4:
Type: CNAME Record
Alias or host = stores
Points to
stores.homestead.com

Step 2: To complete the process, contact us.
The domain point will be completed within 1-3 business days.

Thanks,
Matt

Matt B:

Thanks. Everything worked as you said. We are successfully pointing our old URL to the new Homestead site.

I have now repeated these steps with the second provider and need to point the domain, tbri.org to the homestead site. Last time someone in Live Chat did that for me. Do I have to go through Live Chat or can you do this for us? Thanks.

Hi Tampa Bay9397, Is the domain pointing to the immunehealthresarch site also? If so I can take care of it without you going to Live Chat.

Yes, we want the old domain (www.tbri.org) to point to immunehealthresearch.com. Thanks.

Tampa Bay9397, I've just added the pointing domain. It should start pulling up the new site shortly.

If this post helps, please give a "Star" and complete this survey to rate me.

Thanks!

Right now www.tbri.org is pointing to the Homestead home page, not our Homestead website.

Tampa Bay9397, That domain is hosted at another company, but it can still be pointed to your site. Should it be pointing to the immunehealthresearch site?
