I would like to know if there is a way to remove the .html from the url placed on the pages and if there is a way to rename the home page from showing up as index.

You can name the page anything you want, but the home page is index.html. To change the name on your site navigation menu, you'll use the site navigation menu settings > Link > select the title you want to rename > change the "Display name" to reflect you title preference. From this menu, you can also edit, to change the linked page you'd like represented.

The problem that I am  having is that each url on a page shows .html following the pagename. I am trying to eliminate the .html from the pagename. I know how to change the name in the navigational settings.

so when I type the pagename, it should be www.yourpage.com/about-us but the page will show invalid unless I enter www.yourpage.com/about-us.html

I am sorry, but there is not a way to hide the *.html at the end of your pages.
