I am building a new site on Squarepsace, I want this site to have an entirely new domain. However, I have a current Homestead site and am wanting to redirect current traffic from here to my new site(it has not been published officially)

If I transfer my current Homestead domain, will that interfere with my Squarespace set up or new domain once I publish it? Or is there a simple way to create a "this site has been redirected to www.insertdomainnamehere.com"?

Hello,

If you keep the domain with Homestead you can set the current domain that you have to direct to the new domain you will get with Squarespace. If you transfer the domain out I am not able to say exactly how they will set it up but most hosting companies allow 2 domains to point to the same site.

Is there anyone to add a 301 re-direct at the DNS level?  I have a site currently on homestead.  I built a new site on webflow with a different domain address.  I want to re-direct my current traffic from homestead site to new domain.  How can we achieve?

Homestead does not offer 301 redirect set ups. You can however use the sub domain point to direct traffic from one domain to another. If it is a site url you can generate a redirect code via HTML and add the on the index page of the site.

Thank you for your response, Michelle! I only want to keep the domain temporarily. All of this is so new to me (it honestly hurts my head sometimes!) Would I add the sub-domain onto the site I want to be my main site (which is on Squarespace)?

No problem. Correct, go to domains and click edit for the sub domain option. Then add the Squarespace domain in to the other url field. This will route anyone using the Homestead domain to the Squarespace domain.
