Hi guys ...
I've been a Homestead user for the better part of 15 years now and I love it ! But, I have to ask ... what is the problem with Homestead and being able to publish my changes, updates, etc., in a quick, effective manner ? Within the last 6 months or so, I've noticed that as soon as I hit "Publish" for any of my websites ... the progress bar slows right down and a page that has nothing more that a dozen or so lines of text is taking more than 20 minutes to complete. I'm not doing anything differently than I ever have (15 years). So, what's the issue and how can it be resolved ? I look forward to your prompt reply.

Hi John6140,

There is a huge migration going on that should help this when it ends. The plan for that is the 12th. That being said, something else is going on with your system. It shouldn;t take that long and the migration hasn't been going that long. I would like that we wait to look into this until the migration has completed, so that we have a known issue out of the way.

I'm ready to scream.  Nothing works for days, won't load pages for hours, won't publish ever.  What is going on? This is big stuff for our small businesses this time (and all the time) of the year. Your calm replies are sympathetic and meant to be reassuring, but sympathy and reassurances don't keep us in business.

Hi Drew ... thanks for the reply. There's a couple of issues that your reply doesn't address.
1.) There' s very little info to be downloaded ... far less than many of my existing pages on some of my other websites.
2.) A huge migration on the 12th is great. But I've been having this issue now for at least 6 months.
2.) Now, I can't even log into my SiteBuilder (please see the attached picture for the error response I'm getting) and to be honest, I'd rather not use SiteBuilder Lite.

I really need some assistance in solving these issues as promptly as possible. I pay and have paid for my subscriptions for many years and am more than happy to continue to do so. But, now I need your help help and your answers a vague, at best. Come on guys ...

I too have been with Homestead for over 15 years and love it.  Boy does that Login Error Message look familiar.  That just started recently for me.  Past couple days.  Today I added some stuff and published it.  It all ran like usual but apparently the only place the changes took place were in my mind cuz anybody visiting my site sees the old stuff and not the new??????????

Same here. I have tried to get some Christmas info added to my site all afternoon. It saves but does NOT publish. So no one is seeing my updated info.

I was able to update one page earlier today but no luck after that.

I'm also getting this same error message about half the time I try to log in.

This has happened off and on all day.

Then this morning couldn't even access my website online, finally that got fixed.

I called tech support at 7 pm (EST), it's now 7:28 pm and I'm still on hold.

Even tried Chat, unavailable...

I was on hold for about 15 minutes and gave up.  Was successful with the help chat but they're not much help.  You can publish from Homestead's site but when I tried that it didn't have my updates...  BUT, if you guys keep trying it will work the regular way.  Took me a couple hours but it finally published.  The login error; that too will work if you keep trying.  Click login, then click the error message, then login, then error message.........  Sometimes it takes about 8-10 tries....  It must be caused by the "upgrading".

They're doing some upgrades and, rumor has it, it could take 1-2 more weeks.  Wonderful that they decided to do this right before Christmas.  I would suggest you keep trying.  I spent most of yesterday messing with it and was FINALLY successful.  That "Media Specialist" stated, up above, that a "migration" is going to happen on the 12th.  No idea what that means but everything is supposed to go back to normal then.  I've been with Homestead since way back before they even charged for their services.  It's been AWESOME.  Only once or twice, in that whole time, have I had any issues and they were usually corrected immediately.

Hi Janis, Thank you for your update. I have always vouched for homestead and it has been terrific over the last decade with great tech support. But this is ridiculous, this is so bad that this could in all seriousness close my business down!!! I keep trying and trying to log in but with no success. 1-2 weeks is so so long and I really need a solution to be able to place on my Christmas deals. if this is correct and it is all fixed then it will still be to late.

I know homestead so well and it takes me little time to make updates so I do not want to change to another builder / company for my web site solutions. But is this keep on I will have to cancel and change to another company for my sites. I actually have over 40 sites in my account with them so can not believe that they are doing this. it is not just my site that has a problem but all the other sites i keep on my account.

If you manage to come across a solution please please let me know, I have calculated that so far I have lost revenue in the regions of $2000!!!!!! over the weekend I can estimate at least another $1000 lost.

If anything you find i would so appreciate a message of what you did.

Thanking you in advance.

SEEN1011,

Which site are you trying to edit? Most people are able to launch their sites in Sitebuilder Plus, unless they have a large number of sites and/or a very large number of pages on the site.. If your updates are urgent, you can try Plus. Your largest site came up for me this morning. It take a while to load and change pages, but editing isn't too bad. It may take a little while to get used to, but it should allow you to make the changes you need.

I tried to publish via Homestead's site "Plus" but it shows my site BEFORE the updates.  Soooooo, I just kept trying the old way.  Took hours but I WON!  Haven't tried it yet today.  Like most of you I NEED MY WEB SITE!!!  I have baby Labradoodles for sale.  My issue isn't as vital but it's just as frustrating.  You pay for something and you expect it to work.  I kept opening and closing the site builder and I tried publishing the entire site and then just a single page.  I think publishing one page atta' time works better at this point.  It's almost like you can sneak one in occasionally.  I have the same problem with tax programs via the State.  If it's busy you can't get through.  Keep trying, you'll get it.  I have to be up, in the middle of the night, less traffic then.  Good luck everybody, we'll get through this!!!

Drew,
Like everyone else here after years of good service, this is getting old.  I get log in errors like above and his at best hit and miss with mostly miss.  I keep getting the Homestead "Server Issues" error from the web browser.  I click the OK button and get the advertisement.  I have also noticed than when you try to publish, no files are transferred.  If the files transfer, they update.  This seems to be an issue with the server.  It has been doing the same thing for at least 5 days.  Using Sitebuilder Lite.  Thanks

Keith2878,

I know it is. Which site are you editing? Maybe I can see something? Did you make changes to a page that you know hasn't published?

Hi John

I kept my shorts from being in a knot (and I suppose others have done the same) until tonight's ETA that was given to us.

It might help us understand - If Homestead was to put up a live-feed with a few video-cams to show us (if) Engineers are actually working.

I have to post new menus on my site each week (4 in total) It took me forever to log on and was suggesting I mis-typed my username or password. Finally got through after several attempts. After, I wrote my menus and saved them and published as usual. I assumed it went through as always. It wasn't until one of my clients emailed me and said it was the old menu. This morning I finally got the menus published, but only after doing it many times. Still not confident its right. It would have been helpful to know that there were changes or issues going on but nothing indicated that at the homestead website. Not happy at all, considering what I pay.

Sorry John0126,

The connection problems in desktop might last a bit longer. You should be able to use Sitebuilder Plus to change the menu pages. If you want me to double check what is currently published, tell me what I should see on which menu. It looks like a total of 4 pages were published today. I can't see changes, only that there were published.

Can someone explain why Homestead did not put out an email or some type of notice that there would be changes and that technical issues would occur.  This seems very negligent.  There apparently has been quite a bit of lost revenue on top of not have service that is paid for for an extended period of time.

I was wondering the same thing but I thought maybe I blew off their message.  Been so busy.  Usually they do the down time thing late at night or on weekends or at least give us a head's up.  I think they're havin' unexpected problems???  Would be pretty stupid to plan a major upgrade right before Christmas???

Drew N ...
Thanks for your replies, but to be honest, once again, they're not helping any of us with these issues. Homestead has ALWAYS been extremely reliable ... for me, at least. Unlike many of the others who have added their comments to this thread; I don't have a revenue stream that is being impacted because of these issues. I'm certainly not on a 'witch hunt' here, but as a loyal, long-time, paying customer ... along with so many others ... we're looking for solid, quick, permanent results.
  Clearly, our issues are ...
1.) We can't log in to our SiteBuilders.
2.) We can't publish changes/amendments to our sites, with any level of reliability.
Why have these things happened, seemingly out of nowhere ? We need results and you're apparently the guy. Will Homestead compensate any of us for our lost time and/or revenue ?

Sincerely frustrated ...
John

I bet you're right Keith.  The guy in the help chat kept bringing up "Site Builder Plus".  I HATE change.  Like all you guys I've been using this for years.  I only use text and my own images of puppies.  So easy and quick.   I don't need all the fancy stuff.  Leave me alone.  :)

John6140,

I understand. There just is no quick and easy fix as the migration progresses. I get that many don't like Plus and some people can't even access it, but many can and choose not to. My goal is to look at all possible options and present any useable solutions. Unfortunately, when talking Sitebuilder, Sitebuilder Plus, is the only useable option. As far as I know, the original timeline has not changed. That puts it complete on December 12. Due to the 3rd party outage in several major cities yesterday that affected large amounts of traffic in some areas, it is possible that it will impact our migration. I have not been notified of this. I would expect the engineers are still evaluating any potential impact to the timeline.

Drew ...
So, do I understand correctly that SiteBuilder is becoming SiteBuilder Plus ?
I'm OK with an upgrade/improvement ... but this is the first I've heard of it (i.e.  Attn: Homestead users ... this is what is happening and this is when it will begin and end).

It's been hit and miss for weeks. Last night the entire company was down for hours.  Today they asked me to backup my desktop Sitebuilder files and completely delete Homestead from my system and reload it.  Took several hours.  I ahven't had a chance to test anything yet.  I did notice several weeks ago that the porgram stopped checking for updates when you launch the program.  I will post here what happens.  It is very frustrating.

My first interaction with the newly downloaded version of the desktop version of Sitebuilder is not good.  It completely locked up trying to send an error message presumably to Microsoft.  I am not sure the error report went through. It finally dumped me out of the program.

My second observation is the program is very slow to respond to any editing.  The cursor rapidly blinks like it is trying to do something while you are working or doing nothing but watching.

At least it would publish, but it took much longer.

My guess is the program is written in JAVA 2 which may explain a great deal.  My security software is not happy seeing anything written in JAVA.  Too many security bugs over the years.

how do you get the desktop version?  I used it for years, then they told me I couldn't have it anymore when they moved to the cloud.  No way, nada.  Now I see a lot of people are still using it (flawed or not) The cloud has been a mess for me.

John, I feel your pain!  But, good news!  I just got it to publish and I think everything works.  You can tell it works if the bar on the bottom right side of the screen, where it says, "Online", scrolls horizontally like a barber shop pole.  Know what I mean? In the box where it asks if you wanna' publish "this page" or "entire site" I clicked "this page" and  I unchecked where it says something about viewing the page after publishing.  Try that.  Persistence works but it certainly doesn't help with the traffic problem.  If there is a traffic problem.  :)

Another thing you guys could try...  Keep in mind I'm a computer user and not a programmer.  I really haven't a clue.  Buttttttttt, I am able to publish now.  Last night I tried to do what the help chat guy said.  I logged into the Homestead site, clicked on Site Management on the left side of the screen, and after a bit, it opened my site on a weird yet exciting new editing page.  (Still HATE change.)  It showed my site WITHOUT the updates so I closed it and went back to the old way.  Maybe just opening your site in "Plus" boosts something????  Worth a try!
