I insert email links using buttons and texts on all my sites using Sitebuilder Desktop, but when the user clicks on that link, either nothing happens, or he/she gets a window asking to set up Outlook.   For example, on the site www.insuranceprotectionnow.com, click on the email address link in the middle of the page (mailbox@regroupusa.com).    I have many such links on this and other sites.  Why does this happen?   Why does an email screen not come up?    What's the solution?

The link produces an email form addressed to mailbox@regroupusa.com. What do you want the link to do?

When you link to an email address and someone clicks on it, the visitor's default email program will launch with a new email message. Many people that use Webmail instead of Outlook or other program, will not have a default email program on their system, and they will receive the setup Outlook message. You can get around this, by using a form. They will fill in the information and submit it. The results go to your specified email address. Unfortunately this has drawbacks as well. You will not be able to reply to the email as it is sent by a script, not the site visitor. Also, if they misspell their email address while entering it, then you will not have a valid email for the contact.

Drew, thanks for your answer.  Wish I'd known about this ten years ago.   I just assumed that entering the email link brought up the default email program, which is what I intended.   Using a form works unless there are several email addresses on one page and you'd have to set up a form for each one. Plus, the emailed form shows that it comes from "Homestead", which is very confusing to the recipient.

I have my default email set up as Gmail, and when I click on an email link, it still brings up the Outlook window.  Why do you suppose this is happening?    Also, many people have told me that when they click on an email link, nothing happens.   What circumstance causes this, and how can it be repaired?

Do you know which links do not work. It used to be that everyone had a default email program, but that seems less common now. . I can take a look at the links if you specify the page that doesn't seem to be working.

Drew.....none of the email links work on any of my sites....about 40 of them.    Here are a few examples....all either get the "Outlook" screen, or no response on clicking, and yet, there is a default email client (gmail) on all of the computers I've checked.    What's the solution other than creating an input form?   If the email links don't work, why is there an option on the menu?

Each of these works for me. They all pop up a new message window in Outlook. The address is already populated. I am not sure why the gmail option is not working for you. I will configure it on a test machine and see if that works.
