Poor stats for a week since using Cloudflare to secure it

The stats for my site www.knitalteration.com have not been reporting properly for a week since using cloudflare to make it a secure site. The site is available online and an occasional hit or bot is recorded. But it does not record any of my customers who i know have just visited the site or my own visits to the site in a regular fashion. Please have someone at Homestead look into this. I use the stats to view how my customers are using the site. They are important to me.

It is possible that it is still updating, but at this point, I will put a ticket in to see if they can find anything else causing this. There isn't an ETA I can give with that. One option that remains to get the stats working quicker would be to use Google Analytics. I know I had mentioned that before and it wasn't your first option, but it is an option.

Marcella,  I had this problem, too. I had everything in place i.e. NameServers etc. but still not secure. I called HomeStead customer service and a very nice fellow 'walked' me through some tabs that needed to be 'turned on' at Cloudflare. I suggest calling them.

As you may have seen on this post, I have created a ticket for this issue. So far it has only been reported by you and Sandy, who originally posted this question. As I told her, there isn't an ETA I can give with that. One option that remains to get the stats working quicker would be to use Google Analytics

Hi Elyzabeth and Mark I am still waiting for the stats to show up. It's been over 2 weeks. Elyzabeth, are you saying that using Google Analytics will help the Homestead stats show up? I thought you were saying to use Google Analytics in place of Homestead stats. As I mentioned before, Google emails me several times a week because I use their Ads. They feel like Big Brother and I like using less of their services, rather than more. They are like a necessary if useful nuisance (or worse) as it is.

Hey Sandy. I am not saying that Google Analytics will fix our stats, but if you need a faster solution to be able to view site stats, I would recommend using Google Analytics instead. I do understand that is not your preference.

I am having the same problem also after securing my site with cloud flare. It completely stopped showing any activity on my site . I too depend a lot on
this feature and need help in resolving it. .

It is still ticketed to our dev team, but there is very little information regarding this issue, not very many people have reported this. If you can give as much detail as possible as to what steps you are going through to test this issue, or any information of a time you know someone visited your site and the visit isn't recoded, I can pass that information up to our dev team to put more information on the ticket.

A more immediate fix would be to use Google Analytics. I know that isn't some peoples first choice, but if you absolutely need more immediate stats, this would be your best option. We provide a very basic stats tool, Google Analytics is much more advanced and will work better.

Thank you for your follow-up. I am able to view my site - https://www.knitalteration.com when I use Internet Explorer and a hit shows up on the HomeStead stats. When I use Goggle Chrome or YaHoo or most other browsers I can view the site but I get no stat hit. I just did each of these a little after noon around 12:21PT today. Google Ads indicates around 25-30 customers hits a week from them that do not appear on the Homestead stats now, but that used to before using CloudFlare.  There are some hits that do squeeze though occasionally like bots (even from Google?) and two regular visitors from Ann Arbor, Michigan and another from Tukwilla, WA. Why only these, and who they are? I have no idea. Perhaps they are using Internet Explorer, too?
The Cloudflare Name Servers are entered at DirectNic  where I originally  purchased my domain name. That all works as far as the' https' display and the site being available on the web. Cloudflare indicate numerous hits daily to the site (way more that Homestead stats ever did), but of course no customer details.
My business is seasonal and it heats up dramatically with the first cold weather and new fall season. Over the summer the site generally gets something like 15-20 hits a day. This time of year that starts to increase significantly.
My customers are rarely local but rather from all over the country/world. My service is unique - 'a dying art ' as some say. Happily, I rarely loose a customer once they find me. So I am glad that the site is available, but I really miss my HomeStead stats that help me stay in tune with the daily flow of business and a new line of related products that I am offering. Any help with this is appreciated.

I can add to the above information, that Google Ads report 45 Google Ad hits for last week between 9/9 and 9/15. Homestead shows 20 hits for that same period, most of which were various bots, me  or those described in my previous post above. This Google report does not include simple Google hits off the web. These Google hits are for ads I have placed on relevant pages.

Good morning Elizabeth. I am still experiencing the problem with the stats. For me, it appears that only those hits like the bots are being recorded. None of the other visits are being reported at all. Thank you for keeping this on someone's desk to work on! :)

Hello all. I appreciate the continued comments on this thread. I keep passing the information along. They reopened a previous ticket that was thought to be resolved regarding this. They have updated the complaint and the information that you all have provided is being given to them. Unfortunately, you all are not the only ones to be experiencing this. We are seeing this from others as well. Please be assured they are looking into this and I will give you guys an update on it as soon as I have one.

Elyzabeth, I'm disappointed that the ticket was closed without being resolved but thankful that it is open again. Too bad that time was wasted while the ticket was closed.

I am very disappointed in how Homestead has handled/ignored this issue. At the least we should be hearing from the actual people who are working to restore access to our stats. I would like to receive a daily report until this is resolved. I would also like to suggest that in the future,  there be a notice made of such a ticket as this being 'closed.'

Elyzabeth, could we at least get an idea of what the problem is? It has been more than a month.  Is there broken equipment that Homestead cannot afford to replace? Or not enough staff to follow up on this? Or lack of knowledge? Or what?

I too have been waiting for this issue to be fixed. I lost all my daily stats the moment I completed the process with Cloudflare. I used this feature everyday. I have gone from around 150 to 7 visits per week and 2 of those were cloudflare cache.  I hope your "planned mantenance" on October 6th includes taking care of this problem.

The developers are working on the solution, that is all the information I have to give you on that ticket right now. They have many projects that are being managed and if you need an immediate solution, I will have to recommend you start using Google Analytics or some other 3rd party statistic tracker.
If you need to view your stats right now, that is the most serviceable solution. If you don't want to use any other tracker, then unfortunately it will be a matter of waiting for this ticket to be resolved and there is not an ETA I can give you.

In regard to the planned maintenance, that is for the Community servers, nothing to do with the Homestead servers. It will not affect this issue.

I converted our website to https with Cloudflare on 8/14. Since then, the "visits per day" stat from Homestead is only averaging 7. Before 8/14 I averaged about 25. I began panicking, thinking our site is not getting seen. However, when I check Google Analytics, I can see the visits per day did go down a bit, but they are much higher than what Homestead is reporting (thank goodness!).

I think this is something Homestead needs to take a look at.

I do have a couple question for those of you experiencing these discrepancies.

  1. In the Cloudflare account, under the Crypto tab, do you have "Always Use HTTPS" and "Automatic HTTPS Rewrites" turned on?


  2. When testing your own site, do you go to the HTTPS version or HTTP and let it redirect?

Yes, I have 'On' for both of those tabs at Cloudflare. 

I am able to log in to my site using both HTTPS and HTTP as well as plain www....

Usually these do not show up as 'hits' on HomeStead stats. Occasionally they will show up when I use Bing as the browser. Other than that I get occasional hits from various bots (including Google bot) and a few random hits from around the country/world.  As I have said before my site is readily available as a secure site and I am grateful for that. I have logged in from various computers and browser and queried my customers about their experience. I look forward to having this cleared up.

Elyzabeth, Are the stats ever going to be available again for those of us who are using Cloudflare?? Has Homestead decided not to fix this problem? Can I get a partial refund for the weeks I have gone without properly working stats? This feels so wrong of Homestead to ignore this issue week after week.

Hi Sandy3192, The developers are fixing it. Unfortunately, the update required also required some other updates to be done, which lengthened the time to do the coding. I still do not have an ETA for delivery, but the development team did indicate that they are nearly ready for testing. I do want to assure you that this issue has not been ignored, but has taken longer than we would have liked. Hopefully it won't be much longer.

If you need a more immediate fix, I highly recommend using Google Analytics, or another 3rd party web analytics service. We offer very basic site statistics, so these programs that are specifically for analytics will be better for your business to use anyway. It will give more in depth information. We are working on this ticket, but do not have an ETA for the resolution.

Hi Mark! It's hard to say which is more disappointing - Not having the stats or How Homestead has ignoring this issue.
BTW Have you noticed that the graphics no longer work on things like charts?
It feels to me like Homestead is planning on dropping the Stats function. They don't list it as a feature in their advertisements. I feel gipped and am starting to look for a new provider.

Homestead is definitely not ignoring this issue. It isn't a switch we can turn stats on or off. This is complicated coding that needs to be worked, tested and that kind of thing does take time. I apologize that it has taken so long. The fix is now in testing, but we do not have a release date for it at this time. The stats program is not being discontinued at this time.

If you cannot wait until we can fix this issue, you can use a 3rd party analytics tool. Another way you may get this working for now would be to remove the SSL from your site. Lastly, if you rebuild your site in the newer builder, the stat tracker in Website Builder was not affected.

We are also not seeing traffic to our website https://www.watermaid-europe.com/ since using Cloudflare only about 10% visible now - why is this?

Hi David, Thanks for your post. I checked your site and saw it has an ' Error 502' statement with an illustration indicating that the error is between Cloudflare and the website provider. I checked my website -  www.knitalteration.com and found the same thing. Will check back in the morning and hope to find it available and that this is Homestead making a repair.

I am not sure what we can do to improve stats. prior to the Cloudflare application there used to be several more viewings per week, now whether there are still the viewings and just not recorded or if viewing is restricted in some areas - we are in Spain Europe so it could be that as there seem to be less from Spain than previously - What can be done to investigate the reasons or prove otherwise I have no idea -
