Is my Homestead site and its PayPal buttons ready for the PayPal Service Upgrade due to occur on Sept. 30, 2015, or is it up to me to do something?  I wouldn't know what to do, so help, please!  This is the email from PayPal to which I am referring:

PayPal service upgrades.

As we have previously communicated to you, PayPal is upgrading the certificate for www.paypal.com to SHA-256. This endpoint is also used by merchants using the Instant Payment Notification (IPN) product.

This upgrade is scheduled for 9/30/2015; however, we may need to change this date on short notice to you to align to the industry security standard.

You’re receiving this notification because you’ve been identified as a merchant who has used IPN endpoints within the past year. If you have not made the necessary changes, we urge you to do so right away to avoid a disruption of your service!

Because these changes are technical in nature, we advise that you consult with your individuals responsible for your PayPal integration. They will be able to identify what, if any, changes are needed. Please share this email and the hyperlinks below with your technical contact for evaluation.

Testing in the Sandbox is one of the best ways to make sure your integration works. Sandbox endpoints have been upgraded to accept secure connections by the SHA-256 Certificates.

Full technical details can be found in our Merchant Security System Upgrade Guide. In addition, our2015-2016 SSL Certificate Change microsite contains a schedule of our service upgrade plan.

Thanks for your patience as we continue to improve our services.

Hello,

I will confirm this with our engineers, but I do not believe this will affect the PayPal buttons on the site as we do not use the IPN they are referencing in the email. I will post back with an update when we speak with them. I will be sure to post back before 9/30/15 when the change is set to be implemented.

I created my own PayPal buttons/cart and I do use IPN, so I need to know if I need to do anything myself. Thanks.

Our organization received an email from PayPal as well. It concerns our DAHF.org web site (Delaware Aviation Hall of Fame) on Homestead, and utilizes the PayPal button for payment.
The letter states: "You’re receiving this notification because you’ve been identified as a merchant who has used IPN endpoints within the past year. If you have not made the necessary changes, we urge you to do so right away to avoid a disruption of your service!"
Will the web site incur a disruption of using PayPal for processing purchases? The DAHF is in the midst of selling tickets to our annual Honors Banquet, and the PayPal payment service is a major source of processing those payments. Any disruption would severely impact our event.

If you are using Paypal HTML generated code for your button, then we do not believe there should be any problems, as our website doesn't handle any of the processing. If Paypal is requiring that you generate new code, then you may need to make those changes.

We are still looking to confirm all this with our developers and Paypal.

We have also received the notification and trust BigCommerce is making the appropriate changes? I did speak with PP the other day and was under the impression from them that we (at least our configuration) did not require any action on generating a new certificate....do you know if there is anything required on our end?

Thanks in advance.

Since you are using BigCommerce, there won't be anything you have to do on your end.
