I am at the last stage of completing our new website and that is to add the dozens (more like hundreds!) of custom cake images in the different gallery pages.  My question is, should they all be in one long section that I keep making longer and longer or should I occasionally break them up by adding additional sections?  If there are no problems with very VERY long sections, I would prefer the former but am prepared to do the latter.
Thanks!

Hi Susan:

I think that visitors to your website would interested in just a sample of cakes instead of hundreds.
Just pick some of your best designs and mention more images would sent on request.
This would open the door to invite potential clients to contact you with their idea's. Good Luck!

Thanks Les, Good point!  However, no single page will have "hundreds" of images, they will be spread thru half a dozen specialized galleries.  I guess my statement WAS misleading!
Thanks!

Les, I've been thinking about this and I need to make a disclaimer (hehehe)! Forgive any gender profiling but you are looking at this as a man and most, but not all, of our clients are women.  It is true that a man typically wants a no-frills no-nonsense choice whereas i believe most women would prefer to look at as many different examples as possible, I know I would!  Clients are looking for ideas as much as choices and that calls for a lot of examples covering different tastes and preferences.  That said, our largest gallery, Birthday Cakes for Kids probably has (only) 50 or 60 images!
...Just saying, hahahaha!

Susan, if I am shopping for a cake I would prefer to see only what I am interested in (ex. birthday, wedding, pound vs. layer) and only see 5 or 6 in each category.  I am interested in seeing your creative ability to take what I want and create it.  My theory is less is more!  Good Luck!

Susan, I agree. Statistics show that most people don't tend to spend a lot of time on sites. Having as few images as possible that display her best work would be the most impacting option.

Then, for people who do choose to scroll through a lot of images, you can add an Image Gallery page.

I have added specialized image galleries with lots of points at which user can “return to top of page” or go straight to the contact and estimate page. I really appreciate all the input and have adjusted my approach accordingly.
Thanks!
