I don't believe that site is relevant to adding https. There are dozens of sites regarding the subject however just do a search, but the bottom line is that we can't add https to our sites as it requires server side access - that isn't accessible to us.

themieleman Thanks for the link but as it states in the article I would need to access the server ( "On your web server, you will need to... " )  which we can't do with Homestead.

susan2829- Why can't Homestead add this to their servers like every other website company does?

I'm afraid I can't answer that Lee other than to say that it is probably in the mix and Homestead will offer it up in the future.

If you actually meant https, that is not available with the Homestead programs. The relevance of having it is being monitored by Homestead and at this point it isn't crucial regarding search results, but they are looking to the future.

This IS a critical things in this day and age. My new website clients are requesting/requiring it more and more everyday. In this day and age of cyber-security everyone expects that level of protection. How can a company with thousands of website customers not have this capability?

for their own website they have it! look here: https://www.homestead.com/

If it is not important for homesteads customers, like they tell you, it seems important for their own website!!!

Switching to HTTPS: Is it really worth it?

Since more that one year I ask homestead to activate the HTTPS

I receive always the same answer: this is not important!

Since Google made the announcement

that HTTPS is a PRIOR Ranking Signal,

It became now a must, since google decided your that your Ranking will drop dramatically shortly without https certificate!.

Homestead,

this is a very important question:

When will you give all your customers the opportunity to get the https or are you waiting to kill all your customers by staying on http?

Please advise very briefly

jan4110, This is an excerpt from Google concerning the ranking impact of https.

For these reasons, over the past few months we’ve been running tests taking into account whether sites use secure, encrypted connections as a signal in our search ranking algorithms. We've seen positive results, so we're starting to use HTTPS as a ranking signal. For now it's only a very lightweight signal — affecting fewer than 1% of global queries, and carrying less weight than other signals such as high-quality content — while we give webmasters time to switch to HTTPS. But over time, we may decide to strengthen it, because we’d like to encourage all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web.

We are watching this and I continue to pass these comments along, but according to Google, this is not a significant factor in ranking at this time. Will it become so, probably, and we will watch that and gather information. There are at least 200 factors Google uses in their ranking, and SSL is "very lightweight" at this time. As has been for a long time, the single most important factor is high quality content. Make sure you have great content in both text and images. Make sure you use alt-txt on images. Page titles and descriptions are very important as well. They should be unique per page and an indication of the content on that page.

If you provide the site name you are concerned about I and some other customers may be able to offer some suggestions as to what may help. It would also help to know what you desire for key search words. That way I can do a little research on competition for those words.

Honestly Drew, my issue has NOTHING to do with ranking. It is 100% website security issue. Or more specific, the 'perceived' website security issues me and ALL of my website clients have because there is no https option. I have a client I just convinced to move over to Homestead and I have NO good explanation why her customers are asking why here website IS NOT secure anymore? I understand that it is no less secure than before, but try telling that to the "insert number here" of people who do not know all the legal and technical jargon. They should see the 'security'pop up and all the articles out there on the web (including powerhouses like Google) stating this is the wave of the future so you better get on board. Is this really a huge issue to put in place for a company as old and experienced as Homestead. I have been with you for 8 years and have weathered the storms but this is going to be a biggie soon and an a major inconvenience for ME now. Thanks for whatever you guys can do.

https: Not a ranking issue?

Visitors to your website should see the 'security'pop up

If they do not see that green 'security'pop up they will no more visit your website!!

= Less visitors on your website = less ranking!!!

I have been with you since the year 2001

The quality of homestaed was superior durng years.

Now missing what is very important :

missing responsive

missing anchor links text

missing https

Dear Drew, please put homestead under pressure to provide it.

and to give a planning with dates,

With respect for all professional customers

Thanks a lot!
