Social Media Day is observed every year on June 30th.  Although it hasn't been around for long, social media has redefined how people interact, communicate and share with family, friends and the world.

With the launch of platforms like MySpace in the early 2000's, social media quickly became mainstream. 2004 was the start of social media powerhouse, Facebook. Twitter encouraged us to be succinct by posting our thoughts with fewer characters. We can share beautiful imagery through Instagram by posting photos and videos.  Speaking of video, YouTube is worlds largest video platform.

Social media has made it possible to stay connected and informed about with those important people in our lives.   Reconnecting with classmates, past work associates and more has become possible through these avenues. It is also the way many people stay updated on current events. On a lighter note, most of us have tried a recipe that caught our attention or a DIY project that looked interesting. Social media has integrated itself into our world and has introduced new possibilities.

HOW TO OBSERVE Post something on your favorite social media platform. Use #SocialMediaDay and #HomesteadWebsites when posting to remind others of this day
