People have been asking this question for years...my question is what possible reason would one have for doing so?

Thanks

HI Martin, yes I have seen this question come up time and time again. It is usually prompted by their statistics showing the website has been accessed from far flung countries on multiple occasions. I think the fear is they are being hacked in some way hence they question "can they block certain visitors". I do not know if this would rate as a threat, but in the end, the  World Wide Web is exactly what it is, World Wide.

Thank you for all of your replies. Martin & Brian, yes, one of the reasons I would like to block an IP is due to traffic from foreign countries that has been taken one step further by sending me phishing emails and some other odd activity.

Also an IP that has visited my site every four hours for over two weeks...But the main reason is due to an individual that hasn't followed copyright law and has been passing my materials off as theirs. Even after I requested that they stop. Coincidentally, my sales come to a halt each time I see these odd activities in my site analytics.

I was hoping that maybe someone would know of a site widget or something I could just add-on to my site.

Hi Angela, now that does sound rather alarming and sadly I don't have an answer for you. You have identified two problems really. One is the constant visits which seems as if its a "phishing" exercise and the other is plagiarism. Contact forms on websites or links to your email can be "farmed" for spam/phishing. Using any contact link with a form of Challenge Phrase before the  email/Form can be sent would help.

I was unaware I had so many "friends" in African countries wanting to use my bank account  to deposit millions  or that my little Company would cause such excitement in the world wide Investment community wanting to invest millions in my website!!!!

As for people passing off your work as their own, well that goes back hundreds of years I guess. The downside of the copy and paste ability. I have copyright on my website and a registered trademark but then legal action against fraudsters would only be viable in my own country and I am sure the same with you, expensive.

I did once have a constant nuisance from an email address, dozens a day,  I just spent an evening pasting the email address into as many websites that had a subscribe facility. It seemed to do the trick...

Its becoming a WWW problem, I don't know if the tech guys have an answer but fingers crossed.
