I have Homestead Sitebuilder. For the past 5 hours, I have been unable to get online to update my site. I am online with other programs (email, twitter, etc.) but not Homestead Sitebuilder. I even tried another computer to no avail.

Hello,

Are you trying to log in to Sitebuilder Desktop or Sitebuilder Plus? I was just able to load into Sitebuilder Plus successfully and we haven't gotten any reports of anyone else having trouble loading the builder.

I understand I can use the browser based "plus" version of sitebuilder, but my desktop version software still tells me to connect, so I can't seem to use it for the last few days.  I am doing minor edits in plus via the browser version but I really need desktop working as the "plus" version doesn't allow many KEY features I have used in desktop for over 10 years now like working in multiple tabs, copy paste from one page to another and many other things.  I really do HOPE they are actually looking into fixing this issue, yes I can use the desktop version but I can't upload anything at this point which is becoming very frustrating.

Same here.  I cannot access the files I need to correct from the web based sitebuilder.  I keep getting the "Internet Connection Required" error every time I try to publish anything.  I tried it on 3 different browsers and had the same issue.  Is Support not listening to these inquiries???   Please stop telling people that there is no issue when very obviously there IS an issue with the desktop sitebuilder.

Come on Homestead, fix this security issue. Sitebuilder plus is not an option for most of your clients that have posted on here this subject. I hate to leave after 10 years of great service but I need the options offered in Desktop. Really upset!

Were you able to figure this out? Having the same issue with the desktop. Have rebooted. Tried both wifi and hardline connection. Clearly online as I am submitting this from the same computer. Bottom right corner shows the offline message. I go to publish and get the attached box. Clicking on "Connect" does nothing but refresh the box.

I even tried under desktops HELP tab to do force update, shut down restarted crossed fingers hoped even said a prayer but still no luck for me... Yes I can do minor junk on the plus version but I want to use desktop like I have for years, too many features missing i use daily with the "plus" version which to me isn't a plus lol.

Desktop Sitebuilder is publishing pages as usual for me -- and I'm using a ten year old computer.  So there must be something wrong on your end.  If you can't figure it out, Homestead will help you on Monday, I'm sure.

Anybody having any luck yet? Would think since multiple people have the same problem that this is just quick connection reset needed on the server side. The program opens, it works, it saves work and does everything that it should, but it will not connect to publish. Is Drew no longer around?

Good morning Elyzabeth. Still offline and unable to publish any updates. Accessing Sitebuilder or working inside the program is not a problem at all. Just getting it to connect and publish. If you have any updates or if there is something that I can be doing on my end, just let me know. Got update requests stacking up on me and not sure how to respond on when they will be completed. Appreciate any help or guidance that you may be able to provide.

Hello,

The agent was correct. This program is very old and outdated, and is no longer supported. I highly recommend you stop using this builder.

The only recommendation I could offer would be to uninstall and re-install the program to try to get it to work again.

What builder do you suggest? If it is your new WebsiteBuilder, how and where can I get it? I think I could make the change quickly (although I have about 15,000 pages, only 5 were made with Sitebuilder. The others are just files I link to).

Elyzabeth that cannot be the only answer. I have dozens of websites and thousands of pages. As early as four months ago there was a post that "at this time we do not plan to discontinue sitebuilder desktop". But now, in a 24 hour stretch you are saying that the product, along with access to all of the websites, pages and files is gone for good?

I did what you suggested on a complete uninstall/reinstall and now I cannot even sign into the program because it is offline and does not have a way to verify my username and password.

This is not an issue on anyone's computer that requires a reinstall. This is a connection problem at the source. All I am asking is if there is any way to escalate or run this up the ladder and just verify the connection or whatever problem would keep us offline. It is just a connection problem. How in the world does Homestead just give up on their customers like that?

If we need to go with a new company or new sitebuilder, I get that. But you can not completely shutdown access to a product without an advanced warning ... and there was none. I have a ton of sites that I would need to redesign. But more importantly I have ones that need to be updated now. I am not trying to make threats. I am trying to save my livelihood for my and my family's sake. I am speechless. I do not know what else to say.

I have been using Sitebuilder forever. I pay a lot of money for this. If they can't fix it I will go elsewhere. I have to be able to update my website. I do not like the Plus version and WONT USE IT! Guess I will going elsewhere and paying somebody else to host my site. Very very disappointing.

Has anybody tried calling them?

I called a few days ago and was told they stopped providing phone support for the desktop version a while ago and was directed here to the help forum. From everything that they have been saying and the fact we are now on Day 5 ... I doubt we will ever see the desktop publisher again regradless of how much we pitch a fit. It doesn't work and if they knew how to make it work we would have all been back online days ago. Drew warned us about this day for years. Looks like it arrived sooner than any of us wanted. That said, while not ideal, I have put my personal feeling aside and have been using Plus to make minor updates and it works in a pinch. Have yet to make any major updates. I have spent the better part of the last two days looking for a company that A) Has a versatile builder like the desktop and B) will allow for importing of an existing website and html files. Have struck out across the board. Was such a great product. I accept that it is gone, but still hate to see it go away.

This morning I am having this same issue telling me I am not connected to the internet, I am and very fast connection, I have opened and closed sitebuilder a few times with no luck, this is driving me batty!  It' happened once or twice before in the past but I always just restarted the program and pc and it worked again now I can't get it to work!   I have so many pages with homestead over 10 years now, I don't even see anything about this in the system status area (which is where i looked first),  WHAT IS GOING ON HOMESTEAD?

For giggles i reinstalled sitebuilder on a secondary computer I have in my den, just to see and yep same issue not connected to the internet, so its not my laptop or primary, ive restarted the computers, reset my router and modem, and I am connected at 11 ping with 200+mbps, watching netflix roku the works, so something somewhere on homesteads side needs a reset.

If we will never be able to log back on, what will happen to our files? Will they stay there forever, unable to be updated? I need some of those files back, so they don't fall into the wrong hands. Are you going to hold them hostage? How can we delete them?

Hi Dave,

I'm glad that worked for you!
If they are able to get that program working, any changes made in Sitebuilder Plus can be downloaded into Sitebuilder Desktop.
We do have to recommend not switching back, but ultimately that choice is up to you. You would just have to log into Desktop, go to file manager, then click Download

Elyzabeth,  I am having the same trouble using Sitebuilder Desktop (no connection), I have just tried using Sitebuilder Plus to make the edits that are time sensitive, and when I open my site in Plus, it brings me to a version that is over 2 years old (probably the last time I used Plus). How can I load my site as it's published to make edits instead of this old version?

There are features on the desk top version that are not available on Sitebuilder Plus.  Such as adding a link to a youtube video.. or another webpage.  Can you advise how to do that in sitebuilder plus?  I have looked and looked and can't find any way to do this

William,

It seems to me that you didn't see my response yesterday, so I will re-post it for you

I want to assure you all that Homestead has not taken any action to discontinue Sitebuilder Desktop. If we were going to make that decision, we would absolutely give you advanced notice.

The cause of this issue is unfortunately that this program is very old and very outdated. A recent security update has made the downloadable builder too incompatible to function. The update was necessary for the safety and security of all accounts, so we cannot roll back this change. We have informed our engineering team that the change has affected the functionality of the Desktop program, and they will see if there a workaround they can put in place to allow the program to continue to work.

At this point, my best suggestion would be to try to use Sitebuilder Plus. This is the online version of the same program you've been using. Most people will see their site, and be able to edit through Sitebuilder Plus. For those that have their sites uploaded to this program, the only thing that will be inaccessible would be any updates you made yesterday or today. To access this builder, you just need to log into your Homestead account and click on Websites Manager.

Again, I am so sorry for the trouble and we will let you know of any updates on this issue.

Curious to know how many people still use desktop like me, I was with homestead from day one when it was even a free service.  i've tried sitebuilder plus it is seriously crippled vs the features desktop offers, those who have used both gave the same feedback years ago when we all started to use it.  I just hope they are looking into a fix on that end for desktop, i mean like actually looking into it vs saying well tell them to just use plus.

Elyzabeth - you say programs - with an "S" as in pural.  Yet the only option you give us is the sitebuilder plus route, which as stated by many has many features lacking compared to the desktop version.  The youtube videos you promote - none of my online Plus" pages look like yours - across 3 different OS systems/computers.

I been a Homestead customer since 2001 and up until Feb 5th, 2019 I was still using Homestead Site Builder LPX Desktop Version, it has many more features that the website Editor just doesn't have or offer!

I haven't been able to connect and edit my webpages since Feb 6th when I got this message below.

Elyzabeth said their latest security update did something to this program and they are trying to fix it, but come on Homestead its been 6 days already,
Yes its old, so fix it and dump the new one because it really sucks!
If this old one is so bad, they why do you still leave it up on your website for download?
That just doesn't make any sense to me!
A VERY DISAPPOINTED CUSTOMER.

Sitebuilder plus works but is not a plus in anyway, its more of a minus as many features I use in desktop sitebuilder don't work in the browser based "plus" version, I am sure hoping they can fix this as I have a lot of work to do!

I, too, need to have the Desktop Sitebuilder back. I don't know how long I can last with Sitebuilder Plus. With Desktop, I can put updated files in the Homestead folder in my computer's ProgramData, and when I open Desktop Sitebuilder, it shows me which files need to be published. With Plus, I have to physically drag new files into the file manager. I also found old (outdated and unused) files in the Plus file manager.

I really don't get how they call it "plus" when it's missing so many key features that desktop had, mainly working in 2 windows copy pasting things etc, I just hope they can fix desktop soon, actually what i hope is that someone is even looking at fixing it (that they even care).

I hope that Homestead understands that some of us are attached to Sitebuilder Desktop and for various reasons we want to continue using it. I've been using it for 17 years and think it's a gem of a program. Coca-Cola once changed their recipe, but due to public outcry, they brought back the original and called it "Coke Classic." In my view, Sitebuilder Desktop is a classic and I hope we can still use it for a long time to come. I realize this is not your decision or doing, Elyzabeth, but just thought I'd cast a vote for Sitebuilder Desktop in case someone is listening. :o)

I vote for Desktop also. Sitebuilder Plus is a DOWNGRADE from Desktop. Hopefully we will be able to use it again soon. We need more Desktop users to voice their opposition to this shut out.

I have been having the same problem with not being able to "connect", even thought the computer is connected to internet.  Out of frustration, I turned on an old computer that I used to use Sitebuilder on, and low and behold it connects and updated my site!!  The old computer runs on Windows 7, and the one I use now (that wont' connect) is  Windows 10.  But I really hope they get this fixed as I do not want to keep two computers open all the time to do website updates. But maybe this will help some of you get your updates done.

I wish I was that lucky, I have 3 comuters with homestead on it, one is an old xp machine even, but sadly none of them allow me to upload from them, I get all the way to publish then the not connected box pops up, ugh i wish it was that simple on my end... Glad you are able to upload though, i still think this is a larger problem than they seem to be addressing, just most don't seek out where and how to find solutions, as time passes more will find this thread and add to it I am sure.
