posted stats are inaccurate, not in my city or state but other stats  like cresskill, Nj  all the time?
  1. This seems like inaccurate predestine zone redirection. I think we all agree stats can determine marketing methods. I don't know if stats are a 3rd party software but it should be correct. Anyone have similar problems, or a resolution to fix it? I have an old homestead site.

Hello,

The recorded stats are accurate, NJ is a close location and it may be that the internet service provider for those visitors is located there. Also, if customers are visiting from a mobile device it may be that the network tower is pulling from NJ. I understand this can have an impact on marketing methods but this is the information that is pulled and provided. However, if you feel the stats are inaccurate, you can set up google analytics to receive website statistics from there.

Michelle, thanks for your reply, however myself personal stats from my home PC in New York City (not Cresskill NJ)don't reflect that. I Use a Cable internet provider not mobile. It's A puzzlement. i will look into  google analytics, but see no reason to pay an additional fee. Again thank you for your help.

Of course, very understandable. If you are interested in going that route, google analytics and webmaster tools is a free service, so you will not need to pay anything for site stats. No problem.

I don't think your situation is unique.

When I visit my site on my home desktop it says I'm in Greenville or Spartanburg, Asheville/Hickory NC and I've even seen Columbia SC. I have a Charter internet connection.

When I use my phone it says I'm in Los Angeles, Kansas City, Atlanta and a few more.

I live in Greenville SC and have had the same personal cell number (864 area code) with the same provider (Sprint) for over 10 years. If I access my website using my phone when I'm not at home, I'm usually less than 20 miles away from the house but it still shows the variety of city locations.

I also use Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools. They're stats aren't much more accurate for exact locations but they are a bit better. You just have to figure out when the visitor was there. But that's just my experience.

Thanks Steve, it is fairly common, I am in AZ and when I use my mobile phone it comes from Los Angeles sometimes also. Its weird but I believe it has something to do with the towers locations.
